I noticed looking at the final positions for the year that Any Murray ended the year 84 in the points race and 65 on the entry ranking. Should points be awarded for challenger events because otherwise at the year end a player ends the year ranked differently on each system. I always believed that the idea was that both lists should agree at the year end.

The ATP Race shouldn't be taken so seriously as it is. In the end it's just a ranking made to determine the players that qualify to the Masters. Of course, it's not perfect, if we consider Puerta, for example, who played challengers during the first few months of the season, he had challenger points accounting for his entry ranking, but not for his race ranking. So what would you do with a player that starts the year at futures level and finishes in the top 70?

euhm, i can explain the entry ranking...
It consist the best 18 result of the last 52 weeks and they make a difference between mandatory events(grand slams and master series) and non mandatory events(smaller tournaments) max 5 , master cup is 19th tournament.

For example a player in top 50 who didn't play Roland Garros would get a zero,a player outside for example outside top 200 wouldn't-- not mandatory for him

Just ignore the Race ranking. As someone said its only purpose is to determine who qualifies for the Masters Cup. Tho only ranking that the players look at is the Entry Ranking.
