Давыденко и Шарапова признаны лучшими теннисистами России в 2005 году
На проходящей в Москве национальной теннисной премии "Русский Кубок" Николай Давыденко получил приз как лучший теннисист уходящего года. Организаторами торжественной церемонии была показана видеозапись обращения Давыденко к ее участникам.
"Я хочу сказать большое спасибо всем людям в России, кто за меня болел. Я старался играть за Россию. И если Сафин выздоровеет, мы постараемся выиграть Кубок Дэвиса", - пообещал Давыденко, который находится сейчас в Шанхае.

Он также поблагодарил президента Федерации тенниса России (ФТР) Шамиля Тарпищева за его усилия по популяризации этого вида спорта в стране.
Номинация "Лучший теннисист года" в этом году была совмещена с номинацией "Лучший тренер года", так как победу в ней одержал брат Николая - Эдуард Давыденко.
Лучшей теннисисткой России 2005 года была признана Мария Шарапова. Впрочем, этот трофей был вручен Шараповой ранее, во время проходившего в Москве "Кубка Кремля". Плотный график не позволил Марии приехать в столицу России на церемонию вручения национальной премии.
Также на "Русском Кубке" были вручены награды в номинациях "За вклад в развитие теннисной базы", "Любители года", "Журналист года", "Теннисное издание года" и "Юниорская команда года". В последней номинации лучшими были признаны сборные девушек до 14 и до 18 лет.
Сезон-2005 стал самым удачным для Давыденко. Он выиграл турнир в Сент-Пелтене, впервые в карьере дошел до полуфинала турнира из серии "Большого Шлема" (Открытый чемпионат Франции) и итогового турнира Ассоциации теннисистов-профессионалов (АТP), а также стал финалистом "Кубка Кремля" в парном разряде. Николай завершил год в ранге седьмой ракетки планеты, тогда как в 2004-м он финишировал на 28-й строчке. В составе национальной сборной Давыденко дошел до полуфинала Кубка Дэвиса, где россияне в упорной борьбе уступили хорватам.
В сезоне-2005 Шарапова выступала менее удачно, чем годом ранее, что, впрочем, не помешало ей впервые в истории отечественного тенниса занимать первую строчку рейтинга, с которой ее под конец сезона сместила американка Линдсей Дэвенпорт. Мария выиграла 3 титула в одиночном разряде, трижды выходила в полуфиналы турниров из серии "Большого Шлема" (только на "Ролан Гаррос" она не прошла дальше стадии четвертьфинала), а также попала в четверку лучших на итоговом турнире Женской теннисной ассоциации (WТА), передает rian.ru.
