The basic summary is this article

Time to Adapt

The whole team is there in Zagreb and they are having double training to adjust to the surface as quickly as possible.

Nalle, Chela and Calleri were training in the first session and Acasuso and the youngster Emiliano Massa was there as well.

Mancini said " It seems the court is very fast and the one in the Paris- Bercy tournament is a little bit faster. The team is adapting well, working hard and so I have confidence"

Nalle and Calleri were working with Lucas Arnold an assistant to Mancini and partner to Nalle in 3 DC wins

Mancini repeated his speech about the differences between the Davis Cup and ATP. Ljubo is in very goiod form and Mancini said "Davis Cup is different and it's a great moment for a player and he has the confidence which is reflected in his results on the circuit."

They expect Ljubo to play and his doubtful participation is a strategic move to distract them.

Chucho Acasuso said that we have the weapons to win

Now/ to have the Argentine team was presented for the tie on the 7-9 April against Croatia as visitors is Chucho, Nalbandian, Calleri and Chela , by the end of the quarter finals of the World Group.

José “Chucho” Acasuso indicated that "Argentina doesn't go to Zagreb for a point." For me in this there isn't a favourite besides than they are at home. It's a very difficult tie and difficult couple refering to Ancic and Ljubo. We have the necessary weapons to win", said Acasuso recalling what happened when in July of last year when Argentina eliminated Australia 4-1 on the grass also in this round.

When asked whether he has much chance to play in this tie, the misionero was indifferent on the subejct. "Because I am at the disposal of the team and added I can play singles, doubles or to help with training. I am doing what the captain asks."

With relation to the previous that went on yesterday, the misonero said that" Croatia´s court will play much faster, ball will bounce lower"

Acasuso says "he´s playing well, despite losing badly against Berdych in Miami."

Chucho will not play singles in Croatia: Calleri got injured and Mancini picked up Chela

Reducir Ampliar

Thanks for the update. Too sad for our big man. But I mostly hope this is nothing too serious for Agustin.

Hi Choupi, now the news in argentine press are that Calleri will play singles and doubles even injured is that a mind game as the one of Ljubicic telling that maybe he won't play? of course he will play...so maybe Calleri is not injured.

It looks like Chucho will be playing doubles with Nalbandian today replacing Callleri who had a very tough match and good luck big man.

Well, it's a good thing if he can play. Just hope Calleri hasn't been victim of another back injury. I read he had been treated for that yesterday.

We'll we find that out tomorrow, but Chucho is playing in first away tie and they are in a very good position at the moment.

Chucho was so nice in the interview post-match: he said "Agustín was tired and Luly thinked of me because i made a good adaptation on carpet. And fortunatelly we could win the point, we could do what Luly asked to us. Tomorrow if Agustin cannot play it is also Chelita that made also a good adaptation on Carlet"

thanks, Chucho for another good performance in Davis Cup!
and on fast surface!

Argentina takes a step nearer the last four
David Nalbandian and Jose Acasuso overcame Croatian captain Ivan Ljubicic and rising star Marin Cilic in Saturday's doubles rubber to put Argentina 2-1 ahead in this Davis Cup by BNP Paribas quarterfinal tie.

The Croatians were hoping that Mario Ancic would be fit for the doubles rubber but he was unable to take part and was replaced by junior world No. 1 Cilic.

Although the defending champions battled hard, Argentina's duo proved too strong and ran out a 64 62 36 64 winner in just over two and a half hours to put their country just one match away from the Davis Cup semifinals.

Croatia must now win both of Sunday's reverse singles to maintain its grip on the trophy.

More soon...

Default Re: Chucho News and Articles

Argentina, the better team

The fourth set was also a tight affair. Ljubicic saved two break points in the fourth game as did Acasuso in the ninth before Cilic’s serve was broken. Some poor volleys, deprived the Croats of a fourth set tie-break, but the bottom line of this story is that Argentina was the better team.

Ljubicic was full of praise for Marin Cilic.

"Apart from the first game of the match Cilic played great. It was a great experience. The Argentinians were a better team, but if we took the fourth set, who know. Better and more lucky".

Cilic felt the same as his captain, the rest of the Argentinians, Jose Acasuso, and the captain Alberto Mancini felt it was a "tough match, but Argentina played better in the end".

Croatia in unfamiliar position

The Croatian dream is wearing thin at the moment, as for the first time since 2004 against France in Metz in the Davis Cup World Group first round, Croatia is in the losing position after the doubles. On both occasions, Croatia was without its best doubles team. Now they will have to fight for their lives.

"On Thursday I said we need a miracle. Now I say, we need one surprise, one big, big surprise".

That's how Ivan Ljubicic sees things. Dark cloud still reigns over Mario Ancic fitness, and he is unlikely to play.

"This morning Mario looked more postive, but for him to play on Sunday, if the fifth rubber will be a decider, he must be 100% fit. We hope, but it's a long shot. We certainly want Mario to play, before even thinking about Cilic or Sasa Tuksar".

But first things first. Nalbandian has a chance to put this match out of Croatia’s reach.

"Our chances grow by the day. Ivan is a great player, this surface is fine for both of us. It will be a tough match, we'll see".

On Sunday, Nalbandian takes on Ljubicic in the first of the reverse singles, with Agustin Calleri and Ancic nominated for the fifth rubber
