Argentine Duo Upsets Top Seeds in Vina del Mar Final

Jose Acasuso and Sebastian Prieto clinched their third career trophy as a team (Stuttgart and Bucharest 2005) when they upset top seeds Frantisek Cermak and Leos Friedl 7-6(2), 6-4 in the doubles final at the Movistar Open in Vina del Mar.

The Argentines, who reached the final in Buenos Aires last year in their first tournament as a team, hold a 24-7 doubles record. Acasuso claimed his fourth doubles title while Prieto took his seventh crown.

Cermak and Friedl last year won five team titles, with Freidl winning an ATP-best six titles for the season.

From Olé Deportivo today

Brief translation: Chcucho said Mancini contacted him for Davis Cup team, and he replied: "of course, i am available to play"....he said also that Gaston is very bad because of his shoulder, but if Gaston will recover, he will wait for another opportunity to play the Davis Cup. The article also said that Chucho raised the level of his game to win the SF with an ace. The same in Doubles Finals. Chucho told about his possible opponent in the Finals: "González is powerful and Massu is very intense, but i want to win"

They also said that our channel TyC Sports will broadcast the match tonight!!

Nice pics and Chucho maybe should hook up with the chicks in the picture.

Chucho is usually pretty good with the interviews and he has a big opportunity time for him to take it.

Thanks for the translations of course.

Update 2: Acasuso Beats Massu for Movistar Title
02.05.2006, 10:28 PM

Third-seeded Jose Acasuso of Argentina won the Movistar Open on Sunday, beating Chile's Nicolas Massu 6-4, 6-3.

"I am satisfied because I know I needed to improve my game to beat Nicolas, and I did it," Acasuso said. "I congratulate Nicolas and I know that someday he will win this tournament in his hometown."

The fifth-seeded Massu replied by telling Acasuso over the stadium's loudspeakers, "It was a good game and you deserve the victory."

On Saturday, Acasuso and Sebastian Prieto won the doubles title, beating Frantisek Cermak and Leos Friedl of the Czech Republic 7-6 (2), 6-4.

Default Re: Chucho News and Articles

I will try and run it through a machine translation, though the human one is much better.

http://www.lanacion.com.ar/deportiva...nota_id=778473

The basic translation it seems is that.

This has been an unforgettable week for Chucho winning the singles and doubles in Viña del Mar, plus getting selected for the Davis Cup team as well.

It explains how the crowd was against him and he has won his 3rd title of his career and how he has progressed maybe a bit slower than expected.

What an opportunity it is for him the Davis Cup and mentioned the fact that he is from the same region as Alberto Mancini.

Someone else can complete the job.

Translation:
With so much strength, with a service that was fully working and with his one hand backhand -as the old ones!- that he used in exquisite way, Acasuso got his third victory in his proffessional career.....he got also the first title for La Legión Argentina in this season.
As all great sportmen do, he handled with the pressure of an hostile audience that bothered him during the whole match. Acasuso exploded in last point when Massu's drive went out and screamed "YES, this way, a puro h...." (an arentinian expression which means "with balls")

Thanks for that Maria, as I said my Spanish isn't good and even then with that bad machine translation I had to adapt to make it sound like something understandable.

ACASUSO COMPLETES DOUBLE

Jose Acasuso silenced the local fans when he defeated hometown favourite Nicolas Massu 6-4 6-3 in the final of the ATP Movistar Open in Vina del Mar.

It was a perfect weekend for the 23-year-old Argentinian who won the doubles title with Sebastian Prieto against top seeds Frantisek Cermak and Leos Friedl on Saturday.

The third seed was just too powerful for Massu as he lifted his third ATP title in the 380,000 US dollars claycourt event.

"I knew I needed to improve my game to beat Nicolas and I did," Acasuso said.

"I think I prepared well for the match with my coach and things worked out perfect,'' Acasuso added.

"I am sorry for Nico Massu since he was playing at home in front of his people."

Massu was gracious in defeat but sad to have disappointed his hometown fans.

"I want to congratulate Acasuso for this win,'' Massu said. "He is a great person and a great player and he really deserves it.

"I was a bit tired since I played over seven hours in the last two days, but that doesn't mean that he didn't deserve the win.

"I am sad that I lost at home, in my home town, because I really wanted to win. For me this tournament is big and important but unfortunately it did not happen."

One thing from the speech of the premiation ceremony: Chucho was very touched and he was almost craying when he thanked to his team and specially his trainer, he said, that was always with him in all the bad moments!!

we are waiting here the decision from Mancini to call him to play Davis Cup starting next Friday

So many rumours and if I had my way it would be Chucho and not Chela, but either way as long as Argentina win that is what counts.
