2006 he was pretty injury free and had one of his best years.

Hope Orsanic and the big man put in a solid fitness base, he has fuck all points to defend in 2008.

That's the way it usually goes when a hobby becomes a job. But still it's nice to earn a living doing something you really like.

Acasuso volvió a ganar y se abre camino
VIÑA DEL MAR -- Triplete de los argentinos en un país vecino. Juan Mónaco, José Acasuso y Juan Pablo Brzezicki pasaron a los cuartos de final del torneo ATP de Viña del Mar, en Chile, dotado con 464.000 dólares en premios y que se juega en canchas de arcilla.


Pico Mónaco, el tercer preclasificado del Abierto trasandino, no jugó bien y debió levantar tres match-points ante su compatriota Martín Vassallo Argüello. Triunfó por 6-3, 4-6 y 7-5, pero sufrió muchísimo.



Siempre tomando la iniciativa y arriesgando, en especial con su profunda derecha, Mónaco (21º del ránking ATP) se adelantó ganando el primer set, pero falló más de la cuenta y su rival, ordenado y dueño de una defensa sólida, aprovechó para llevarse el segundo capítulo.



En el parcial decisivo, Mónaco estuvo 2-4 y sacó adelante tres chances de perder el encuentro cuando iba 4-5 y disponía de su servicio. Quedó 15-40 y enseguida levantó otro punto, finalmente se impuso, rápidamente le quebró el saque a un Vassallo Argüello (86º) ya molesto y enojado y definió con el propio para imponerse y respirar aire puro.



Brzezicki (106º) también se impuso con facilidad y por el mismo marcador sobre el también español Marcelo Ganollers-Pujol (125º, surgido de la qualy), en una hora y 28 minutos de juego. Ahora será entonces Brzezicki, más acostumbrado a disputar torneos challengers, el adversario de Mónaco el viernes en cuartos de final.



Acasuso (58º en el ránking mundial) tardó una hora para pasar de ronda ante el español Daniel Gimeno-Traver (167º, llegado de la fase clasificatoria), al que venció por un doble 6-2 en este primer certamen de la gira latinoamericana.



Chucho Acasuso, que no tuvo mayores inconvenientes para deshacerse de su rival en menos de una hora, ratificó su buen momento sobre polvo de ladrillo, a una semana de su participación en la Copa Davis ante Inglaterra.



Necesitó de dos rompimientos en el primer set para adjudicárselo en 29 minutos ante la estéril resistencia del valenciano, quien no pudo imponer sus términos frente a la solidez de fondo de cancha del argentino.



El segundo parcial no fue distinto. De hecho, Acasuso llegó a estar cómodamente 4-0 arriba, ganando luego el set por 6-2, tras 24 sólo minutos.



Luego de la victoria, Acasuso destacó la importancia de haber quebrado de entrada el saque de su rival en ambos sets "porque eso me dio toda la tranquilidad para jugar con mi saque".



"Me siento jugando bien, me tengo confianza pero no me siento favorito, el torneo es muy largo y hay todavía mucho camino por recorrer, aunque por suerte gané dos partidos y eso me hace bien para la confianza", aseguró.



Al ser consultado por la deserción de Andy Murray, primer individual del equipo inglés de la Davis, Acasuso fue categórico al señalar que con ello "ahora no tienen ninguna oportunidad. Antes éramos favoritos con él, y creo que sin él no tendrían ninguna posibilidad. Hay que jugarlo igual pero si Murray no juega obviamente que su opción disminuye mucho y creo que Argentina es gran favorita a ganar y obviamente que para nosotros es mucho mejor si el rival a vencer no va a estar", explicó
