Yes, Chucho knows what is going on, though he doesn't always look it.

Long interview (obviously, about DC). I wll translate it when I have time..... Here it is, for the ones who can read spanish.... I posted the hilarious pic in the pics thread

http://www.ole.clarin.com/jsp/v4/pag...fecha=20061122

JUAN M. MARCHEVSKY Y BERNARDO VAZQUEZ jmarchevsky@ole.com.ar bvazquez@ole.com.ar

Chucho won't be playing in the 1st week of the season just like 2006 and he is also out of the Copa Argentina as well.

It would be nice to see him play it, but I can understand why he is out.

And just to keep the thread active....

"We are really happy because the adaptation to the surface is good. We know the carpet we train on in Geneva is a little more 'quick' than the one that will be used in Russia and that is also good"

"This morning we rested a little after training hard, in two long turns in which we did a lot of tennis. We practised singles and also typical doubles movements"

EDIT: BTW, the team trains in the Centre Sportif Cologny in Geneva in indoor supreme courts and it seems groups of Argentines in the city went to see the training sessions http://www.telam.com.ar/vernota.php?...41&dis=1&sec=6

After playing in that match, then Chucho will fly to Cordoba to play an exho with Nalbandian, Horna, Massu, Lapentti and Monaco.

They will play 2 matches per day best of 3 sets.

This is the site for the event.

Default Re: Chucho News and Articles

Well, it´s more of the same..., but I have free time today and I´m bored
Pics in the photo thread and there´s a vid of the interview too in the videos thread

After the final in Moscow
Acasuso and the support of the kids.

Chucho made an exhibition in Nordelta (is a huge private neighbourhood, with golf court, schools, artificial lake, I think even a hospital..), where he played tenis with dozens of kids; “I have a los of positive things to rescue from the DC”, he said to LANACION.com

Twenty four hours after arriving to Ezeiza after being being defeated by Marat Safin in the decisive point of the DC in Moscow, José Acasuso made a tennis exhibition with kids in Nordelta.
Very “reachable” and in a good mood, Chucho hitted some balls with kids between 5 and 15 during more than an hour, made some photos, signed autographs and thanked the Argentine public for the support he received despite the defeat.
After the event, hosted by Juan Pablo Varsky, the misionero talked to LANACION.com about what the experience of playing the definitive match against Russia left
-José, are you conscious that maybe this DC final will be remembered for how close you were of winning your match against Marat Safin?
-Well, neither me or the team thought that. All the team was very important during all the year and in all the series. The one who plays is only one, but it was me and the whole team the ones who played. Some times you win and sometimes you lose and this time we lost.
-You said that from that match against Safin a new player was born in you. What things do you think can change in your game and what did this match leave you?
-Every match gives you a new experience and makes you grow as a player. Of an important match (like the DC final), despite losing it, I have many positive things to take of it , learn from the mistakes and try not to do it in the future.
-Luli Mancini confirmed his presence as Captain for 2007, and Nalbandian is in doubt. What´s you decision for next year? What do you think it will happends with the group that went to Moscow?
There´s a good predisposition by all the group and next week we are getting all together to have an asado and talk about the future of the Davis Cup for next year and from there we´ll decide what we´ll do.

In the middle of a group of kids that were getting desperate for an autograph and the flashes of the cameras, Chucho left enjoying a well deserved rest after so much pressure and such a long trip in the last week.

The match against Safin with record of audience and popularity. The DC final reached an unusual rating for cable TV. The rating of the match between Acasuso and Safin was of 11.9 points. This number is the same as the addition of the 5 public channels the last Sunday in the same time schedule.
Moreover, in the official DC site, 4300 persons voted for the best match of the tie. 51% did it for the one between Safin and Acasuso, followed by Nalbandian-Safin, with a 27%

After the DC, more exhibitions. This night and till Saturday, José Acasuso will play the Vilas Cup in the Luna Park. The action will start 20:30 pm, with Vilas interviewing the players (that´s a great idea or the worst of all..., probably the last thing ) , the matches Acasuso vs. Tursunov and Del Potro Vs. Robredo and finally a super tie break between Calleri-Del Potro and Tursunov-Robredo.

After that Chucho will travel to Córdoba, where he´ll play the Indoor Master, in the Orfeo, between tomorrow and Sunday. The players will be : Nalbandian, Acasuso, Juan Mónaco, Nicolás Massú, Luis Horna and Nicolás Lapentti.

Anyway (as expected?) he lost and now flies to Cordoba.
I´m mad at me because I completely felt asleep for JMDP and Robredo´s match. It seems it was a good one, despite being an exho....

hi everybody!!
i hav to admit George was right about exhibitons and "real tennis"! Chucho was asleep or really tired (maybe DC let him out of gas) and played really bad...Tursunov with his serve blew him out! I don't like Tursunov's game, it is kind of ellectric...serve and bomb! that's all...i find his game and he himself what we call in Spanish "soso": without attraction, neither fun, it is not attractive to me to see him play
Chucho had some good point making his angles, but let the ball very short and Tursunov killed him

I hope next time in Buenos Aires tournament i could see him live again in a real "tennis" and that will be better. Then i will try to be more close and take pics and everything!
I will see if my friend alexito could do any video and i will post it.

I post ti the entire report i post it in the thread of Copa Vilas.

Some sad news, last Wednesday 6th Chucho´s grandfather, Juan "Rubito" Olmo, died at the age of 83. He was a geologist and was always interested in Misiones´ history. He had an important professional career and was the first director of "Mines and Geology" of Misiones.
