Default Why Hard Courts?

I'm just wondering.. why 70% of the tournaments are played on hard courts?
Not counting:
2 out of 4 Grand Slams
6 out of 9 Masters Series
Tennis Masters Cup

IMO, games on clay courts are much better: You can see long and pretty good rallies, earning points requires more than just strenght or fast serves, you need more technique.
I think there should be an equal number of clay and hard courts tournaments which should help to have a more realistic ranking. There's no doubt Federer and Nadal should be top 2, but the rest...

Hard Courts are the most neutral surface, like it or not. Clay is far from neutral, unless you're from a 3rd world country.

The clay court season is more then long enough as it is, even when the hard court season is, there are still some tournaments on clay for the gravel specialists.
they better make the grass season a little longer, that would give a more appropriate ranking

Tennis Masters Cup is not Hard Courts and 6 of 9 TMS are not hard courts. Cincy,Canada,IW and Miami are only hard courts.

so its 4/9 HC 3/9 on Clay and 2/9 Indoor. pretty even to me, they need a 3rd Indoor to even it out, take one away from HC.

What about grass, that's as important a surface as the others!

Hard is the fairest surface though.. clay wouldn't suit the Ljubicics, and grass/carpet wouldn't suit the Gaudios. So yes, it's right to play HC.

Take one away from HC, but let's have a grass AMS...

I know that the women like it hard, most of them anyway. I know a lot of guys who like it hard too. A hard one is much better than a soft one if you ask me.

Where can you have a hard court? You need no specific climate, or expensive maintenance, or materials.

Practically every other surface is different
