I'm proud of you, Gastón! Against Santoro, no less, and in France!
(I'm sorry Choupi that Fabrice had to lose - I like him too!)
Now I have this treat in store for me this evening! I will be able to watch the match without suffering!
I'm glad you had the chance to see Gastón win, Eléa and Lovely and Reiko!

Just discovering about the outcome, as I'm actually coming home. Didn't wanna know sooner anyway...It was a tough match against a tough opponent, even if tired. So congrats Gaston, you can be proud of yourself. Glad that our special reporters have been able to witness that from the stands. They must be thrilled. I have that match on tape. I'll watch it...later. Sorry if I don't share the joy 100%. That's why I'm stopping here.

Many congratulations Gastion - and pleased that Elea and friends were able to witness this match live. I was at work and couldn't watch, but get the impression that Gaston played extremely well in the 1st set - but the match was much tighter in the 2nd but he managed to pull out the win. Good Luck for the rest of the tourney Gaston.

Looks like Gastón and Mariano have pulled out of the doubles because on the livescore their names have been replaced by Carraz/Dupui.

Guess Mariano just wants to go home now as he is out of the singles - while Gaston has the singles and a possible place in Shanghai to concentrate on.

UPDATE 1-Gaudio makes winning start in Paris

Wed Nov 2, 2005 4:10 PM GMT

PARIS, Nov 2 (Reuters) - Argentine Gaston Gaudio made a winning start to his Paris Masters campaign when he beat local favourite Fabrice Santoro 6-4 7-5 in a second-round match on Wednesday.

Seventh seed Gaudio, who has fond memories of Paris having won the French Open last year, showed more composure when it mattered to move past wildcard Santoro and stay on course for a Masters Cup slot.

Gaudio, who has won five tournaments this year and had a bye past the first round, is one of several players fighting in the French capital for the remaining two tickets to the eight-strong season finale from Nov. 13 in Shanghai.

The Argentine with the trademark baseball cap goes on to meet American Robby Ginepri, the 12th seed, who was made to work by Spaniard Fernando Verdasco before prevailing 6-3 6-7 6-3.

Gaston played quite well in parts of the match against an opponent that was tired and tricky at the same time and didn't let himself get frustrated and that was a key.

Gaston however will need to improve to beat Ginepri, he played quite thoughtfully in this match and will need to do the same against Ginepri. I hope he can use some good tactics, like hitting behind Ginepri a lot, instead of the open court. Varying where he stands on return, like throwing up some heavy and slower topspin returns, as Ginepri likes pace.

It seems like with all the results so far, he is almost in Shanghai as an alternate, just hope he can show some improvement and he was relieved that he won it in 2 sets as he should be.

Vamos Gaston! You deserve to be in Shanghai (which is more than I could say about some of the others who have already qualified... ...and no I don't mean Rogi or Rafa )!

Good luck in this match Gaston. No chance for me to see it, as no tennis for me till tomorrow night. 'Cause I'll be back to work, with students all around...

yes Santoro was tired but its good that Gaston played positively and didnt get himself in troubles....so I guess PAWing against Gaston works, fine then! lets see if it works again today.
