He had a gastroenteritis after winning at Orleans. He saw Guy and he was joking he can follow the instructions from Guy.He played becoz he didn't want to waste the WC and "deprive Marc Gicquel of a place of lucky-loser." - Marc lost in last round of qualifying draw.Does that mean had Nico withdrawn Marc would have been on MD as LL?How Nico deprived? Translation problem lol?
Though I've never been a fan of automatic translations, they got it right here. Only the article in French was weird , because he obviously did deprive Marc of an LL place.

He was rather competitive against Gilles, so there's nothing wrong with that.

Nico will work ponctually with Escude a bit like Mika did with Mauresmo. He will continu to work with Pierre and Boris but Escude will help him. Considering the way was playing Escude it's logical association http://www.rmc.fr/editorial/133118/e...seiller-mahut/

still nothing about the WC in Bercy

Interesting first name. I guessed he is a doubles player and he is.
No,great point and it was unexpected. But I watched Nico's matches like against Safin at Bercy and Roddick at Queens in YT.Of course I watched Isner-Mahut the most. It's painful to watch the last service game, but John did play 2 great passing shots.

I even checked "priver" in online French-English dictionary,it means "deprive" too.The word sounds negative and if the writer of the article thought Nico robbed/deprived Marc of being LL,then others who recieved the WC are the same.
I think even he didn't expect to win at Orleans. It's not his fault to win there and get tired at Montpellier.

BTW Nico gets a WC at Bercy. The WC was given to Paulo first but he has knee injury. Glad Nico has a WC but a good draw is much needed.

R2: Federer

If Nicolas beats Gas I will be suprised.
Draw like this is worse than playing the challenger with heaps of matches.

Match against Safin. Started by fanboyhood !

The sentence in the article from L'Équipe should translate as such:

"He didn't want to waste his WC and deprive Gicquel of a place as LL". As I understand it meant "didn't want to deprive ..." the sentence is weird, as he played the match (and of course had the right to). Perhaps the author meant he didn't want to deprive him of a place as LL ... for nothing if he felt he was not competitive after his gastro but since he felt good he played. Only possible explanation. Don't know if I was clear but I understand myself, that's the most important.

Too busy these last few days to watch but I was pissed when I saw the score and the comments on GM section.

However, great articles here: http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp...2411cda418.971
http://www.sports.fr/cmc/scanner/ten...57.html?popup3

For 2011 he wants to work on his attacking game: serve variety, return, chip & charge and volley. These last few years he practiced his baseline tennis (it did strike me). He never really worked on the attacking game before, unlike what we might think. Have no time to translate more now. Might come back to it.

But glad he will be occasionally coached by the other Nico, always liked him too.

Hi Tiimetochange! Know it's late. But here is the highlight.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDSNjOKExyg

I watched some parts, but when he won the 2nd set I was sleeping. He had chances,he served better but the problem is he wasn't good enough to return to break.I always think if Nico loses his one service game then he has already lost the set. Even he served better at the end of the final set,Gasquet was still the favourite to win during the TB.(Not a big fan of Gas but his powerful bh is a god's gift to watch.I hope Gas will be back on top 15 or 10 after the ban.)I was just very pissed after Nico broke back the mini break then missed last 2 half volleys – 1 into the net 1 wide.If he had lost in easy 2 I would have been less angry. Really can't stand he lost the tight match and got no ranking points when badly needed again.

BTW kinda surprised he didn't plan to play some challengers after Bercy.

It depends. Yes when I talk to close friends. You don't have to filter those thoughts. Someone told me when you learn other language, you gotta learn some naughty words first.

Thanks for explanation and it makes sense. I tried ahap but suck at comprehending the complex meaning. Yes Nico "deprived" him of a place as LL but I don’t think he literally deprived him if you know what I mean, unless Marc was originally arranged to play, then Nico came to rob his place to play.WC first,LL is a back-up for players who get WC or in MD.But I don’t blame the writer now.I think a few minutes and can’t find the suitable word to replace that word.

I am a bit surprised these years he didn’t practice his attacking weapons that much. But it reminds me of the passage “Le perdant magnifique” and if I remember correctly it said his former coach wanted him to be more aggressive but he kept playing like Federer and he thought Nico didn’t have a clear style to play.

Hey dude I like Escude too I like many Nicos but forgot him.Him being a part-time coach of Nico brings me back some memories.Remind one match I watched – against Agassi at US Open in 99.He lost in 3 but it seemed he played quite well. And heard he was nervous to watch his bro to play against Liverpool.

Long again but I promise next time I'll reply much faster and shorter.

OMG This first mini-break, so unlucky.
It's clear for this clip that he's got a return weakness for his standard. As I understand he will work on that. I think if he improves the chip & charge, it can provide him many points on return games.

The article you're referring to also stroke me. His former coach tried to convince him that his tennis was serve & volley and return/volley while he, stubborn as he was, definitely wished to improve his baseline game. Perhaps he thought it was needed because of the slower courts and it stroke me that against John, he didn't come to the net as often as before (but I can't really say, ain't I right?). And now changes his mind, as it seems there is some sort of a fast court (clearwater) revival. At least, if this is true, perhaps he still has chances to make some great performances in the years to come. I've read somewhere he said the results that Mika got this years with an attacking style, while well in his thirties, are very encouraging for him too. And during an interview, posted on this thread, last year or this year I don't remember, he said coming to the net could also prevail on clay because a guy like "Tommy Robredo [whom he played], who is a pure clay court specialist, would rather play a normal forehand than a passing shot."

The Escudé serve motion was a treat to watch. My best memory of him was the Australian Open '98 when he beat Kiefer (sorry, I see he's in your sig ) to advance to the SF and also his Bercy '97 when I really discovered him, though heard about before. That was the time I still had Eurosport and could watch much much much tennis.

Yes it was unlucky and on the bright side he first time took a set against Gasquet and just lost a bit in TB.He didn't look too upset either. It's also a good sign that he final ranking is higher than it was after at Wimbly.

It's great your other fave Mika is doing great these days and inspires Nico.If France wins DC this years,I would say he should be given at lease 50% of the credit. He rocks in both single and doubles.
Nico's match against John is long coz none of them is great returner.I didn't watch the whole match but I also think he didn't always come to the net.Anyway I hope and I think after changing back to attacking style he will doing better next year. And hope he will stay away from injuries and crappy draws!

Nicolas Mahut: «J'ai envie d'exister autrement»

J’espère me régaler, me lâcher dans mon jeu d’attaque.

On a discuté.

Certains me félicitent, d’autres me réconfortent.

Puis je me suis remis dedans.

I liked Faurel as a player, saw him at a challenger once. My player portrait of him is one of the nicest I have.
