Now Cilic. Tough but far from impossible.

Re: Nicolas Mahut
Nice one Nico, good luck against Cilic now
That 2007 run was awesome, I remember it helped me to win my first PAW title (I was the only one picking him against Nadal ) and there I noticed how nice his game is. I cheered so bad for him against Roddick, it was a very close final I reckon.

There are not many out there who can play on grass, Nico is one of them, Allez!

Re: Nicolas Mahut
It was about time he wins a match again at ATP level, the last one was in Metz!
In L'Equipe today ("Nicolas le jardinier"):

Re: Nicolas Mahut
"Mahoute" seems to appeal to the older ladies of Kensington who found every other shot of him "Beautiful!" yesterday - they know their grass tennis. But they probably don't know it was his first win on the main tour since Metz 2008. 3 months without playing at all because of his shoulder and then a rough time on the Challenger tour, tumbling to No. 146 in the rankings.
He says he really was afraid at one point that his shoulder might never be OK again. When he came back in March, he could play normally from the baseline, but the serve just wasn't working anymore. And without his serve, he can't play his game.
In Miami he talked with Jo who had had exactly the same problem and told him he had to wait a long time too to be able to fire aces again. It reassured him.
It was a tough time for his ego, though. He wasn't part of it anymore, understandably. His gf and his coach (Zimbler) helped him a lot to get through this bad patch. Now he has completely recovered his serve and hopes to be back in the top 100 in 6 months.
He had hoped to get a WC for the Queen's, he didn't, but the tournament director offered him to schedule his first match on the Center Court to make up for it if he didn't mind playing on Monday already. It was a no brainer for Nico, even though he was still all aching all over after the qualies. He has a very special relationship with this tournament, everybody knows him there.

Re: Nicolas Mahut
Thanks for the L'Equipe update Fran and the video, Sexysova (I missed it).
I missed the match (didn't have a Centre seat yesterday ) but was so pleased to see him finally record a win at ATP level again and by such a great scoreline too! Hope he can continue to play well here, at this club where he has such good memories. I hope to watch his next match, depending on where/when he is scheduled to play.
Bravo Nico. Hope we can turn things around finally, on the grass.

RICHARD GASQUET: No, I always played well against him. I always won the first two
sets in Roland Garros, so I hope not to win the first two sets this time. (Smiling.)
Maybe the sky will fall?

I still remember the championship point he had
Really hoping he can have some more good performances again this grass season.

Re: Nicolas Mahut
He could meet Roddick in 1/4... great win today, it's so great to see him come back like that!

Re: Nicolas Mahut
A new "chronique", but unfortunately it's more about RG than about himself:
http://www.ouest-france.fr/sport/ten...65826_actu.Htm
His back was hurting a little bit at the end of the match yesterday, but the shoulder is holding up.
(The footnote says he won by far the little Ouest-France quiz about Roland-Garros, but I didn't see his video? I only saw PHM, Gicquel & Co.: http://www.ouest-france.fr/sport/ten...45774_actu.Htm)
Pleasepleaseplease Nico, relieve us of the ace machine!

Re: Nicolas Mahut
I'm not saying it's the reason why he lost, but L'Equipe writes he was sick before his match, he was feeling dizzy.
