Ferrer Confirmed For Heineken Open

Spanish tennis player David Ferrer has confirmed his entry for the Heineken Open in Auckland from January 8-13.
Ferrer, who has a world ranking of 14 and has been as high as No 10, will return to Auckland for his second appearance at the ASB Tennis Centre giving the event four players ranked inside the top-20.
The Valencia resident broke into top-10 rankings for first time following a personal-best fourth round effort at the Australian Open beating Mario Ancic.
"David is a super consistent competitor and a quality player who adds great depth to the tournament," Heineken Open tournament director Graham Pearce said.
Already confirmed for the tournament are world No 7 Tommy Robredo of Spain, Mario Ancic from Croatia, the current No 9, Jarkko Nieminen of Finland who is ranked at 15, former world No 1, Juan Carlos Ferrero, of Spain at No 23 and rising Spanish star Nicolas Almagro.

Good news, can't wait for the season to start. Things are pretty boring without tennis. Hopefully I'll be able to watch the Davis Cup finale. With my luck I'm gonna say the Gods of television programming will treat me to the World Series of Poker instead.

What I want to know is how come when I went to Auckland he didn't play  but then again he would only have been about 19 at the time
That's the only good thing about being off work ill I get to see the Russian sex god  on Friday

Yay! Tennis news! I'm suffering withdrawl I'm afraid.....need to SEE some tennis! Preferably David of course. Wonder if a box of Baileys truffles will help stave off my pain.........?

El Master Nacional de Tenis, que se celebrará en Granada los días 15, 16 y 17 de diciembre contará, según acaba de informar el Patronato Municipal de Deportes, con la presencia de Tommy Robredo (número 6 del mundo y segundo mejor español en el ranking ATP tras Rafael Nadal), David Ferrer (número 14) y Juan Carlos Ferrero (23 del mundo) que, entre otros, ya han confirmado su presencia en la cita granadina, que vio ayer cómo se caía de la lista de participantes el número 2 del mundo, el manacorí Rafael Nadal, que se había convertido en la principal atracción de la convocatoria.
De este modo, según informan desde el PMD, el Masters Nacional contará con 5 de los mejores 35 tenistas del ranking mundial. al confirmar también su presencia Nicolás Almagro (32) y Fernando Verdasco (35). Además, el Master de Granada tendrá en pista a Rubén Ramírez (número 56 del mundo) y Alberto Martín (61). El invitado por la Federación podría ser Albert Montañés (85) o Feliciano López (82).
Desde el PMD han asegurado que el torneo "contará con una calidad de participantes que puede superar algunos ATP".
Este torneo oficial, en el que el vencedor conseguirá la Copa del Rey, tiene a todos sus jugadores participantes entre los cien primeros del mundo y dos de ellos entre los 15 mejores del ranking internacional. Además de Nadal, también estará ausente Carlos Moyá, quien ya anunció al inicio de la temporada que sólo disputaría determinados torneos y exhibiciones, y que renunciaba a jugar incluso hasta en la Copa Davis.
