Good luck to Paradorn in Basel
Ball is playing Christophe Rochus today in Basle, therefore we must all say to him: Chook dii na krup Khun Paradorn ( good luck Mr Paradorn). Hope he will win his first round match and progress deep into the ournament. I hope he ill win the tournament as his chances are quite good considering there is no Nadal or Federer.

Re: Good luck to Paradorn in Basel
Trust me, chewy you are not you are not swearing . Unless a Thai person corrects me I am sure that "Chook dii na Khrup khun Paradorn",means good luck Mr Paradorn. If I am wrong then I should not be in level 1 thai language class Actually my spelling of the Thai words are not standard but phonetic.
By the way, CHAI YOO !!! ( Bravo, Hurrah in Thai) good win over the Belgian now I hope he goes onto win this tournament

Hello Chewy, Thai spelling is so varied that ometimes it's hard to know what word it is when it's written in latin script. Thai has five tones, and incorrect use of the tone can lead to misunderstndin, plus many sounds sch as b , p, ch and j get confused by how they are written. So, in answer to your question jab,or Jeb does mean "ouch". it's shortened form of " jeb pouy". I hope my explanation didn't confuse you.
In answer to your question as to where I am from, actually, I m from Saudi Arabia( that's the flag which you didn't recognise) but live part of the year in Bangkok.
Anyway , back to our topic, I hope Paradorn ( Ball) will win his match today He is playing Novak, and he has a very bad record aginst him. In fact the played four times before and Paradon lost all four times. I hope his luck changes today. "Chook dii na krup khun paradorn for your match with Novak".

Re: Good luck to Paradorn in Basel
Yes, I noticed you had YT Wang on your list and meant to ask you which part of Saudi he was born in? Also, I like to know more about him, as the ATP website has nothing much on him. I like to support him too, as I have been to Taiwan many times and really like the people there. Would appreciate it if you can give me more info.
Back to Paradorn, hope he wins against Nalby, but that would be difficult as David is very consistent and hard to beat.

Re: Good luck to Paradorn in Basel
Para lost in straight set to Nalby 6-2 6-2
i thought d scoreline would be closer than this, still a good run by para.

Re: Good luck to Paradorn in Basel
me too, I thought it would be closer. The problem with Paradorn,(btw, in Thailand his nickname is Ball) is that either he plays super or he just goes for his shots and misses. Nalby is too consistent and like a wall, so, we can say Ball hit a wall, ( bad pun, I am sorry)Well, good run as you said, Chewy. I wonder if he will play next week in Bercy?

Re: Good luck to Paradorn in Basel
yeah ive seen the name 'ball' being use by others b4 but do u know how para got this nickname?
i agree, this is his style of game. which brought him to top 10 once but since havnt work as well for him, i think he needs to play smarter. meaning havin a strategy against diff opponents instead of just using power game.
haha d pun is ok. havnt check his schedule, i think he shld play out d rest of d season, he needs more match practice since he hasnt gone as far in a tournie as previous years.

Re: Good luck to Paradorn in Basel
In thailand, everyone has a nickname which is used daily in place of the formal name. I dont know how he got it but usually they are given it by their parents. I will ask my friends in Bangkok how he got that name.
By the way, he lost today in the qualys for the Paris masters. It's tragic because he lost to a player he should in all honesty win against. But good luck to him next year.

Re: Good luck to Paradorn in Basel
Funny, The Thai papers didn't mention anything about his match or injury. I think the name ball is the english word ball. I guess it was given to him in relation to tennis. I have a friend wiith a nickname Max, his father gave it to him. It's fun to learn languages, it's really a window into different cultures. Poor Paradorn I hope the injury is not serious. He is really having a hard time this year. Also , he got very bad press in thailand early this year. It was all unfortunate indeed. I think all that has affected his plAY. I know a bit about him because I have a friend in the Philippines whose daughter was a junior at the same time as Ball, and they say he is really a fantastic guy. My friend's daughter, Pam saw him at a tournament in Washington D.C. and he remembered her and gave her a big hug. They hadn't seen each other for many years, but he still remembered Pam, even though he was a big time tennis player. I can't see how people can dislike him.
