Gael is ranked #37 now, it's funny how he has moved up at least 10 spots since he got injured.

He's back to the Team Lagardère and will work again with Thierry Champion.
The Team Lagardère wanted Champion to work with both PHM and Gaël, but PHM is totally pissed about that and refused, so Gaël will work alone with Thierry.

Here's the full article:
Quote:
Monfils retrouve Champion

He will work with Champion as a full-time coach and Barbarin (physical trainer)

The article is more about Paulo for the rest, so I'll post the summary in Paulo's forum.

This is actually an article on Tsonga, but there is a section on Gael that I thought was nice and touching.

Quote:
He was on the sidelines while French peers such as Richard Gasquet and Gael Monfils shot up the rankings. But they did not forget him, with Monfils once sending him a text message: "Come back quickly buddy, we'll do fantastic things together."

http://www.grandchelem.net/mon_weblo...a-de.html#more

He might not play Marseille either. They say they're not sure, but they often have insider informations on that blog, so it is not looking good at all if they write that, we should keep the expectations low.

There is absolutely nothing about him in the French media, for so long now, he doesn't want to talk to the journalists, the Team Lagardère doesn't give any information about him either, it is soooo frustrating...

The FFT website says it's because of his knee again:

http://www.fft.fr/open13/2008/

I have no clue of all these things, but it is not normal an inflammation of the patellar tendon takes THAT long to cure, is it?? They were talking of a 10 days break when he withdrew from the AO...

It is It's impossible to be precise with the recovery time.

Straight from the book: Treatment of patellar tendinitis is a long process, no matter what type of treatment you choose. Recovery may take a few weeks or months if the injury isn't too severe, or as long as a year or more for people who undergo surgery.

Thanks a lot for that, Ome, I really had no clue.
Well, his case doesn’t sound so bad then because they’re now talking of Dubai according to L’Equipe today. Not completely ruling out Rotterdam yet, but I'll be shocked if he plays there.

Dubai, that's just one more month to wait... ^^

IT's true that the media tend to forgot about injured players quite quickly.
I have just heard the french commentators in Rotterdam who gave some news about him. They said him withdrawing from Marseille and Rotterdam was just due to a little pain he had and he just didn't want to take any risks. Anyway, he's training hard and the level is here. He might be back for Dubai, but even if he doesn't, it's not worrying cos he will be back for the US tournaments and he plays really well at the moment.
I hope this will make Gael's fans happy.

This time it's not so much the media forgetting about him imo, it's been reported in different media (L'Equipe, Tennis Magazine, Grand Chelem) that he's turning down any request. Officially it's his own decision to keep low profile.

Anyway, thanks a lot for the update! (You've got TV coverage of Rotterdam too?! You really are lucky in France!) That's how the last news sounded to me too when I tried to read between the lines, but I prefer to keep the expectations low.
Dubai is too strong for a comeback tournament, we can wait one more week...
