Thanks, as usual!

Nothing really new, it says this new coach change might not only be a tennis matter, but also a financial one since Norman Canter (the Renaissance Tennis boss) is supposed to have offered Gael 4 millions $ to come to the US.

Then they ask former coaches of Gael or people who have worked with him and it is always the same stuff:
- too influenced by his "entourage" who doesn't take the right decisions and doesn't have the right motives
- he always chooses the easy way, is too capricious. Everybody tells him he has to work in the long-term, but he doesn't put the required effort into it and prefers the "short cuts".
- his "life hygiene" is not flawless
- he's acting too much and regularly complains about "strange" injuries. Every other time, you wonder as a coach if it's true or if it is just in his mind, a former coach of him says.

And then the journalist talks about Benhabilès who is very "fiery" and can be pretty hard sometimes. Gasquet and Golovin only stayed a few months with him. He's known for getting rid of his players after 3 months if they haven't improved in the rankings...

Did gael do it really for the money? i don't think so.. he loves the culture of USA that's sure , but is it really the only reason?
Maybe he is attracted by the "american dream" like tony P....Snif gael chauvine attitude qd meme ....

He placed 2nd at a poker tournament he took part on Monday in Paris...

His audio interview on the FFT website:
http://www.fft.fr/wimbledon/2007/?id=2860
He says he still doesn't like grass.
He isn't very talkative for a change, he just says Tarik told him what to do and he did it - pretty well. He has worked a lot and feels stronger, maybe it helps him to hit the ball so hard.
Now for the rest, "il faut demander à Tarik. Moi, j'exécute" (ask Tarik. I only execute).

Nick Bollettieri's Wimbledon Dossier: Monfils must avoid prodigal son trap
Coaching Report: Gaël Monfils (Fr) v Kristof Vliegen (Bel), No 6 Court
Published: 29 June 2007

Let me tell you about one of the most incredible athletes at work in international sport. He's iconic, prodigiously talented, and has always had role model potential way beyond the urban black community he came from. His father, a soccer nut, comes from Guadeloupe, and his mother comes from Martinique. He was raised in a tough suburb of Paris. Who am I talking about? Thierry Henry or Gaël Monfils?

Both, actually. The similarity of their backgrounds, right down to where their folks originated, is uncanny. I'm not a soccer expert, or even a fan, unless it's Italy in the World Cup. But just by reading the tributes this week to Henry, I know what a career of sustained brilliance he has had. He realised his potential.

Now here's where the stories diverge. Henry is 29, and has been at the top because he did so many things right for so long. Monfils is 20, and the defining choices are in front of him.

I watched him beat Kristof Vliegen yesterday, 7-5, 7-6, 7-6 and... Holy Cow! He's a great shot-maker, covered the court like a skater, served big, played the big points superbly. His volleys need work, on the backhand side especially. But his agility? My move of the day was when he almost ran into the net. Instead, he pirouetted at speed and cleared it from a standing start - backwards!

Pound for pound, Monfils is the best athlete on the tour, bar none. His physique is incredible. He visited my academy in December. Pace, power, punch, muscular but fluid. He hit the deck to do push-ups and returned balls while still on the floor! He can reach anything. On pure athleticism, he can be Michael Jordan, Michael Johnson - you name it. So where's the catch?

I'll take a detour at this point to Marcelo Rios, who had as much pure talent as any player I've ever seen in 50 years as a coach. But he was rude, wouldn't sign autographs for kids, behaved sulkily in interviews and undermined his support team. He was always distracted, thought the world owed him a favour. He should have been No 1 for years, not a week.

Distractions come in many shapes and at some point, Monfils who likes his music and his nightlife, needs to say: "I've done my dancing, had my fun, I'm going to play tennis now, and that alone." Only when he decides that - and no one can do that for him - will he turn junior Slams and dominance into sustained senior stardom. As the great basketball coach Bobby Knight has said, often the athlete with the most talent is the one you can't teach. In many cases, a person with a little less athleticism but more intelligent application will be the better player.

Monfils, like Henry, has the world at his feet, if he chooses.

An article in Le Républicain Lorrain today:
Quote:

L'an dernier, ça m'a pris six mois. »

All the articles say he was all smile yesterday.
About the fact that he's constantly injured: "I should pay more attention to my body, but that wouldn't be me if I did" ( )
He doesn't really know how it happened with his wrist, he tried to keep practicing first ( again), but it's too painful. He'll have to take a complete break.
It's a little bit annoying, but one has to remain positive. He's going to do a lot of physical work and practice a lot with Tarik who is in Paris with him at the moment.
He can improve his ranking quickly because he has nothing to defend, "but in order to do this, I need to be able to play!" "Everything is possible." He knows he can start playing well again "overnight". In Bucharest, it was just a "little trip" he wanted to do with a friend at first and he ended up playing the semi-final.
They'll have a big meeting about the Davis Cup during Bercy. He hasn't been in the team the last 2 years and isn't expecting anything. There is a lot of fuss in France at the moment about the job of the DC captain, so he's asked about Forget: he says he has nothing against him. Forget thought it could work with that team again this year, but next year he'll be surprised. It will be tougher, a lot of new guys are coming. And then the little joke about an all black French team with him, Jo, some black youngsters and Noah as captain - "I love the guy".
It's too bad for Metz, the court suits him and he was feeling well in training, he had high goals. He's disappointed because he already missed the event last year.
He's still in touch with Delaitre who knows him very well. It's not like Olivier vanished from his life when he decided to work with Tarik. "On the contrary."
And then he talks about the French basket-ball team and their poor result at the European Championships. He's very disappointed for them because they're friends of his and they won't go to the Olympics now.
