Welcome around and thanks for the article, Ally!

He says everything went wrong, he couldn't cope with the wind and he's "dismayed" it happened here in Miami.
He was ill the day before, he was throwing up and he felt lethargic during the match. He has a cheese allergy, he wonders if he ate some.
(But he also says it's his fault if he wasn't able to deal with that.)
Delaitre: they must work on a minimum of consistency, so he doesn't come down to such a level on a bad day. Bolelli lulled him with his non-rhythm, but Gael should be able to beat that kind of guys even when he doesn't feel well. Really strong players do that. It was a very good week in Sunrise, he beat guys who were at least as good as Bolelli, but it's another setback and they can't afford to waste any more time now.

And it looks like Gael hasn't given up on being picked for the DC. He says it's different on clay and he thinks he has the profile of a DC player because in DC, it's all about playing one big match.

(And in the first part of the article, the journalist compares Sunrise and his paddle title last year - both an interlude between early defeats. But at least something always happens with him.)
I like how the journalist calls him "le Zébulon".

Apparently this match was decided on hold-ups. Bolleli broke in the 1st set on his only BP, then just before or after (i don't remember) the rain delay... And it was over.

About his comments on DC...

In "Le Parisien" today:
Quote:

» Monfils a vu.
Delaitre sounds confident, says it's normal the US tourney was hard after all this time without a coach, but Gael is back to normal conditions now. They spent 2 weeks training seriously in Sophia-Antipolis. Gael means he feels more serene, he knows he can trust Olivier 100%.
And they seem to have fun together, Gael teases Olivier about his poor ranking when he was a player, Olivier jokes about the fact that coaching Gael only brings worries...
Gael without tatoos anymore, but with green contact lenses!

Oh thank you, I wanted to read that article for so long now!
I'm not disappointed - c'est la totale, là, les pompes extraterrestoriales, "Dans ton cul!" quand il fait un ace...

I don't understand why he doesn't spend more time in the US since he likes it that much. But it won't be very possible with Olivier.

Exactly my feelings, and

Delaître's reaction according to this article is spot on, it reinforces my feelings about him, he seems to be a great guy.
It was the biggest question mark for me with Delaître, the fact that Gael had to give up on his "American dream" (it was obvious Delaître with his 5 children wouldn't be ready to spend half of the year with him in Florida), but he had made that choice, period, and there were so many positive things with Delaître, he seemed to really care about Gael.
I'm so disappointed Gael isn't able to stick to his choice...
He really behaves like a jerk with Olivier. I don't care about the "Team Lagardère", and when he fired Gautier, it wasn't fine, sure, but they still kind of looked like strangers to each other. But how can he do that to Delaître? It's embarrassing.

On the other hand, I was getting sick of the never-ending story with "Renaissance Tennis" and Benhabilès, so at least we will get rid of it.

The summary of the article in L'Équipe:
His lawyer took care of the deal with Benhabiles (the lawyer was already mentioned a few times in L'Équipe as a person who has a lot of influence on Gael). He says Gael is eager to give it a try in the US, to take a break with his usual environment. It's a fact: they tried things, but it didn't work out. Lagardère, IMG, his friends - all this didn't allow him to focus on his tennis like he wants to do now. All the people around him were just thinking of their own interests.
He also says Gael was dreaming of working with Benhabiles since he was 16 years old because of his "charisma". But he's aware leaving France to live abroad isn't so easy and he warned Gael.

Delaître, who doesn't want to "demolish" Gael in front of the journalists, says Gael was still speaking of long term goals a few days ago, like playing the Hopman Cup in 2008. So he was surprised when Gael called him to tell him it was over. Olivier's answer: If you think it's the right thing for you, do it, but I don't think it is. You fought to have me and 2 months later, you're leaving. It looks like you're running away, like you want to hide away...

The people from the Team Lagardère (TL) are mad. It's been a while they don't agree with Gael's choices (included the collaboration with Delaître, apparently). His priority should be the tennis and have nothing to do with the money. He is going to run out of options by giving it a try with all those private coaches, while it would be so important for him to go back to the basics. TL won't follow him in the US.

There is a legal problem too. Gael's lawyer says he didn't sign for a long time with Tarik, but Benhabilès always likes to have everything in control with his players, the physical preparation, all the contracts, etc. = all the things TL was supposed to take care of. And Gael just signed a new contract with TL 3 weeks ago. TL says they regret the way his lawyer negociates everything and they won't accept this decision just like that.

And the little interview with Gael, but he doesn't say anything new. Just that he finally agreed because "deep inside", that is what he always wanted to do (the US, etc.). He sees it as a challenge, he thinks he needs some "fresh air". He's going alone to Zagreb first, but Tarik might be there already for the preparation of Roland-Garros.
He doesn't give a lot of details about how it is going to work, just says he's looking for a place to live in Miami.
People always think he doesn't take time to think about things, but it's not true. He knows the reactions will be harsh because they already were when he left Gautier. And it bothers him people always mean what he's doing is BS. It's tough. But for him, it's a new challenge.

Benhabilès in L'Équipe today:

He’s „delighted“ and hopes he will be able to work properly this time (a hint at the experience with Gasquet in 2003, it just lasted a few weeks because they didn’t agree on the working methods).
He’s read some reactions which were not positive, but he points out it’s the first time since Pioline a player decides to hire a private coach and to take his destiny in hand. He means that’s a sign of determination and people should respect it.
They will start working together 5-6 days before the French Open, which will be a „round of observation“ for him. They first have to get acquainted with each other.
It’s not normal Gael is s ranked so low with his talent. Something isn’t working. That’s why he will do everything to help him and he will organize („orchestrate“) everything. He’s got the structure he needs to do it.

To an outsider, all this looks rather messy. And only time will tell, if it was the right decision. On the short term, the slump might even get deeper, if he does not manage to defend his RG points.

On the other hand, he is still young, a lot can happen within the next year. I would not write him off.

It's always easier to blame something/someone else. Gael knows he is talented and sure he is, but the problem is talent is not enough to get a win at the end of the day.

He made his chioce and he'd better prove to others that he made the right one

I still can't see what is wrong with Team Lagardère? Seems like (French) haven to me. I'd give up my future in medical profession to train there
