Der lange Weg nach Wimbledon.

Sebastian Rieschick, der neue Boris?

In den 90ern gab es eine kurze Phase in Deutschland, in der Tennis drauf und dran war, Fußball den Rang als Top-Sportart abzulaufen. Mit Steffi Graf, Boris Becker, Michael Stich und Anke Huber gab es gleich vier Profis aus deutschen Landen, die regelmäßig Pokale abstaubten und die vorderen Plätze der Weltrangliste besetzten. Das Medieninteresse war riesig, die Zuschauerzahlen enorm. Tennis in Deutschland boomte.

Diese Phase ist vorbei. Graf & Co. haben ihren Schläger an den viel zitierten Nagel gehängt und gelegentliche Erfolge ihrer „Erben“ Tommy Haas, Nicolas Kiefer und Rainer Schüttler vermochten kaum ein neues Tennisfieber in Deutschland zu entfachen. Inzwischen gehen diese Spieler selbst straight auf die 30 zu; allzu lange werden die Center Courts dieser Welt wohl nicht mehr von ihrer Anwesenheit beehrt werden. Zeit wird es also für neue Namen.

Es gibt ihn, den deutschen Tennisnachwuchs, nur kennt ihn keiner. Anna-Lena Grönefeld, Angelique Kerber, Philipp Kohlschreiber, Mischa Zverev — nie gehört? Macht nichts, schade ist es aber trotzdem, denn das Potential zum neuen deutschen Tennisstar haben sie alle.

So ist auch Sebastian Rieschick einer der möglichen Tennis-Helden von morgen. 19 Jahre alt ist der Berliner, der die gelbe Filzkugel so kraftvoll übers Netz drischt, dass viele seiner Kollegen schon jetzt vor Neid erblassen. Dabei steht „Rich“ erst am Beginn seiner Karriere — noch ist er hauptberuflich Schüler und baut gerade an seinem Abitur. „Ich hoffe, dass ich das Abi nächstes Jahr bestehe. Danach will ich es dann so richtig auf der Profitour versuchen.“
Viel Zeit zum Büffeln bleibt dem 1,93m-Hünen nicht, verbringt er doch die meisten Stunden des Tages auf dem Tennisplatz. Die ersten Weltranglistenturniere hat er inzwischen bereits bestritten und sich mit wenigen Matches bis auf Platz 554 hochgespielt — Tendenz steigend.

Fragt man Sebastian nach seinen Zielen im Profitennis, reagiert er bescheiden: „Ich möchte das Beste aus mir herausholen, alles umsetzen, was geht. Dann mal schauen, wohin mich das bringt.“ Nach längerem Nachhaken gibt er aber zu: „Die Top 100 sollten's schon sein.“ Eine immer noch diplomatische Antwort, trauen ihm Trainer und Fachpresse doch einiges mehr zu. Schließlich war Sebastian bei den Jugendlichen die Nummer 1 — und das in der Welt!

Der Weg dahin aber ist lang. Jungprofis wie Sebastian, die über noch kein hohes Ranking verfügen, beginnen ihre Laufbahn zumeist auf kleineren Challenger- oder Future-Turnieren. So führt der Weg nach Wimbledon nicht selten über eher kleinere Tennis-El Dorados, wie Dresden, Ettlingen oder Braunschweig.

Diese Woche schlägt er in Fürth auf und begibt sich erneut in die harte Schule eines Challenger-Turniers: ein lärmender Außenplatz auf einer gewöhnlichen Clubanlage im Fränkischen, schreiende Kinder neben dem Zaun und bestenfalls zehn Zuschauer. Sein Gegner: ein kleiner Chilene namens Adrian Garcia, in der Weltrangliste einige hundert Plätze vor ihm klassiert, und trotzdem chancenlos gegen die krachenden Aufschläge und knallharten Grundschläge des jungen Berliners — wenn sie denn kommen. Denn an seiner Konstanz müsse er noch arbeiten, sagt Sebastian, und weniger leichte Fehler machen. Das fehle ihm noch zum „richtigen“ Profi, da sei er noch zu unerfahren. So wird auch das Match gegen den Chilenen sowohl von seinen Punkten, als auch von seinen Fehlern bestimmt. Am Ende gewinnt er mit dem kuriosen Ergebnis 7:6, 0:6, 6:3 — begleitet von einer Becker-Faust, die kann er schon ganz gut.

Zum Abschluss den Interviews noch eine letzte Frage an Sebastian Rieschick. Welches Turnier der angehende Profi denn nächste Woche spiele? „Gar keins“, antwortet dieser, „nächste Woche muss ich erstmal wieder zur Schule.“ Wie gesagt, der Weg nach Wimbledon ist lang.
