truc is right, don't defeat yourselves before the opposition does. germany has had kiefer and haas for like 10 years now, and where have they got them to in davis cup?

put the santoro factor behind and focus on the people you now have in the team. give them your support!

Hello strangers!

Are you sure Paulo is playing? There was an article in the paper today....or was it yesterday? I can't remember...anyway it was talking about how all these players were pulling out of DC at the moment and it mentioned Paulo wasn't playing? But then again they were also mentioning Serra...so I doubt the validity....but hopefully Paulo is playing!

Pointless post I guess...but it's been so long since I've been here.

I won't see the matches because I am not in France at the moment I don't even remember last time I missed a DC match. It was so long ago...Actually, when I was still a child.

And the story Santoro/Forget goes on

Santoro accuse Forget

Fabrice Santoro en larmes. (L'Equipe)

Translation:

Fabrice Santoro, who had not been chosen for the DC match against Germany, from the 10th to 12th february, said on saturday in Tarbes, that "His honor and patriotism have been called into question" by Guy Forget, the captain. "He blames my patriotism and my regard to money" , said Santoro, in Tarbes after an exhibition match agaisnt Nadal.

"I can't accept to hear him say that I refused this selection. I have never said that in our discussions. On the contrary, I told him about my motivation to take up such a challenge. Then, hearing that I prefered 20000 euros rather than the DC selection, that's insulting."

For Santoro, "there wasn't any incompatibility with the schedule, because there are 7 days between the match against Nadal and the DC double. I haven't been asked to choose between the DC and the match against Nadal by the captain." He asks: "Did he consider to select me in the team before my quarterfinal at the AO? It seems his purpose is more personnal than sportive".

In tears
"After having severly rejecting me from the team, he attacks my image. Systematically after good results, he wants to jump down myself's throat. It may be not a coincidence that this happens after the best results of my career." said Santoro before falling into sobbs in front of the journalist. He insists on his willingness to play for his country and recalls that he has"always been present for the Olympic Games in 1992, 2000 and 2004."

Regarding the Davis Cup, the 33 years old player recalls that in November, he had formulated his desire to play the DC and to "help the youngsters".
"Next week-end, I'll be in front of my tv to cheer the team, and I wish them good luck" said Santoro before isolating himself with his mother and getting on crying.

I feel very sad for him. He seems to be really affected by his non-selection.
And I am pretty convinced that Forget didn't give the real reason why Santoro is not in the team.

Let's wait for Forget's next reply

Btw, on the link http://www.lequipe.com/Tennis/20060204_215416Dev.html there is a photo of the press conference (but I couldn't post it here...I don't know why ) and Fabrice looks very very sad on it

Well, I'd be inclined to support Santoro... I really think Forget made a mistake with his non-selection (and all the fuss about it won't help for sure the French Davis Cup team...). In my opinion, Santoro really deserved his selection.

We, I'm very sorry and sad for him.

(and IMO, Gasquet didn't have to express himself about it...)

Unfortunatly I agree at 100 % with Santoro.
I'eve always been loving Forget as a captain, I've always been thinking he's a good guy, prefect in his role etc...but I'm very disapointed by the way he hates Santoro. I think he doesn't select him for sport reaisons, only for personal reasons. He found a poor excuse to exclude him of the team. Moreoverhe accused him of prefering money etc..and I'm sure it's false, Fabrice is one of the most patriotic players, he loves this competition, no doubt about that.

noooooooo I don't agree. Arnaud is glad, thanks to Fabrice's decision he will play. When Seb decided not to play 2 years ago, he didn't say nothing, and I think it was much worse.

(incredible, I'm contradicting my 2 favorites players...)

yeah sure...

I completely disagree, I don't think it is that easy to withdraw from an exhibition 5 days before it, especially when you are not informed that going there can exclude you from the team.
They all support their captain, great... Well, it's maybe better for the team like that and for the atmosphere inside it.

Exclamation Re: ~Davis Cup 2006: 1st round against Germany~

As I told in GM I have no respect to this Forget anymore, but as much as I hate him I want France to win more against Germany.

Watching that pic is really heartbroken,I hope Santoro will feel better.
