Croatia and Slovak Republic top 2006 World Group seedings
Croatia and Slovak Republic will top the seedings for the draw for the World Group of the 2006 Davis Cup by BNP Paribas, which takes place in Paris on Thursday 29 September.

SEEDS FOR 2006 WORLD GROUP DRAW:
1/2. Croatia/Slovak Republic
3. Spain
4. Russia
5. Australia
6. France
7. Argentina
8. USA

According to the Davis Cup Regulations, the two finalist nations are seeded No. 1 and No. 2 in the World Group for the following year, and will be drawn in opposite halves of the draw. Seeds 3-8 are in accordance with the latest Davis Cup Nations Ranking.

Spain retains its No. 1 position on the new ITF Davis Cup Nations Ranking ahead of 2002 champion Russia, who switches places with Australia. Croatia climbs three places to No. 4, while Slovak Republic rises two places to No. 6.

Seedings for the Zonal Group I and Group II competitions will also be based on the latest Davis Cup Nations Ranking, which is published following every Davis Cup weekend.

croatia has a great chance to do well again because we'd face just about every seeded team (except for russia) at home. hopefully we'll get lucky and draw chile or something in the first round

I don't think getting Chile is luck. Netherlands, Belarus and Austria are weaker opponents (and Switzerland without Roger)

yes, but, unlike those other three teams, we'd play them at home and putting them on a fast carpet would give us an easy victory

You should check Athens result to see how good any chilean can play behind ''La Roja''.

edit, according to the ITF rules, the potential Chile-Argentina would be played in argentinian soil.

That's right, but there is an official tie, don't know why it's not in that link, that finished with a walkover from ARG (played in Santiago de Chile) due to disturbs. Chile got a suspension, but officialy, Chile was declared as the winner.

let's hope we get a home tie whoever we draw! Haven't been at home since playign Thailand 3 years ago. I'm hoping for Serbia so Murray can play Djorkovic in Glasgow!
