Re: KIWI's Davis Cup thread !
Eurosport wrote today that Tommy might need another surgery on his shoulder so I don't think he will be an option for a 2nd round Davis Cup tie. So I am very much looking forward for Kühnen's next "reason" for not nominating Kiwi... This would be really funny if the Davis Cup wouldn't mean that much to Kiwi

Re: KIWI's Davis Cup thread !
I hope this thread won't be too quiet in the future because I still think that Kühnen is unpredictable and if you heard the interviews almost nobody was talking about Kiwi, but they were emphasizing how well Kohlschreiber played and lead the team and how great this performance of Tommy was against Croatia. I think Kühnen said something like: "We need Tommy in that form and to win matches like against Croatia where he beat two top10 players if we want to have a chance against Spain".
My conclusion is: If Tommy is without problems the tournaments before the tie against Spain, the door is shut for Kiwi against Spain in singles.

Re: KIWI's Davis Cup thread !
sport1.de wrote " If Haas is fit Kiefer is out" and there were some quotes from Kühnen that showed that he has problems with Kiwi...
http://www.sport1.de/de/sport/artikel_2169050.html
I doubt that Kiwi will play against Spain. Kühnen doesn`t like him and he is just not professional enough to nominate someone against his personal preferences. I wouldn't blame Kiwi if he wouldn`t want to play anymore after this. But he has to say he wants to play because it is part of the Olympia qualification. Only players who make themselves available for Davis Cup are allowed to play Olympia.

Re: KIWI's Davis Cup thread !
I wouldn't rule out the possibility that Waske still can't play, which would make room for Kiefer. Not only as a doubles partner for Petzschner, but also as a possible singles player on Sunday. Mayer and Berrer should be out of the question, if Kiefer has decent runs in IW and Miami.
Though I don't know what Kuehnen is thinking about Kohlmann.

Re: KIWI's Davis Cup thread !
Kohlmann is out, he wants to come back in Munich. Maybe Kas has a small chance, because he and Petzschner beat teams like Knowles/Nestor and Erlich/Ram indoors.

Yes, would be a great option, too, because such a well-working doubles team means something. Only risk is that Kas doesn't have the Davis Cup experience.
But against Spain, Kühnen needs a true and only doubles team that the singles players can rest on Saturday.

Re: KIWI's Davis Cup thread !
This line is totally out of place. :retard: They won 3-2 when we thought the worst possible outcome would be 4-1, and the conclusion of sport1 is that the nomination was right?

Re: KIWI's Davis Cup thread !
That's really a crap line which is inserted of probably a Kiwi-disliking writer here because the following quote does not have to do with Kiefer or the surface in any way.
They could just as well write or insert any name:
Der Verzicht auf die Nominierung von Benjamin Becker hat sich als richtig herausgestellt: "Wir haben insgesamt verdient gewonnen, die intensive Vorbereitung hat sich ausgezahlt."

Re: KIWI's Davis Cup thread !
Nadal about the German team: they have Florian Mayer who is playing very good and Philipp Kohlschreiber who is playing good at the moment.
did he have a joint before that interview??? Mayer in good shape???? Ok... if he thinks Mayer is good he will be surprised by Kiwi!

Re: KIWI's Davis Cup thread !
Sometimes it makes more sense to refrain from trying to praise your opponent, if you want to be taken seriously.
That sport1 quote is mean-spirited. I prefer the following Kohlschreiber quote from a newer sport1 article.
http://www.sport1.de/de/sport/artikel_2169050.html
"Es wäre gut, wenn sich Tommy und Nicolas Kiefer bis dahin topfit fühlen, damit Patrik die Wahl hat", sagt auch Kohlschreiber und bringt damit Kiefer wieder ins Spiel.
--> "It would be nice if Tommy and Nicolas Kiefer were in top shape, so that Patrik has free choice."

Re: KIWI's Davis Cup thread !
OMG I had to as I read this Nadal comment that Mayer is playing very well
I hope for Nadal that this was lost in translation or due to his bad English maybe, or that it is a comment from 2004 or 2005. Otherwise I would seriously question his judgement... come on, Mayer is currently struggling to win any match even on a Challenger

Re: KIWI's Davis Cup thread !
ok time to restart this topic!! Since the last Davis Cup Kohli lost 3 times in first round and reached 3rd round in Indian Wells after a bye in 1st round! Tommy played very well in Indian Wells... much better than Kohli... but he is sick...will he be fit in time? Zverev, Berrer and Schüttler were just bad lately. Becker had problems with his shoulder but this seems to be ok now. He played an ok quali, won the first round in Miami and nobody can blame him for losing to Nadal... and Kiwi?? He played bad in Las Vegas and Indian Wells but yesterday's match was just amazing and since all the others are not better than him I think he should have a good chance to get nominated!! Kühnen even praised his game yesterday!!

Re: KIWI's Davis Cup thread !
Considering Kohli's loss today, things would get really interesting if Kiwi were to defeat Nadal.
