What a start!

Christophe didn't seem motivated at all! He looked like he already knew he was gonna lose from the first ball! Really disappointing!
I really think I would have let Vliegen play instead of Christophe, if I were the coach. Don't know why, but it was just the feeling I had when I heard Christophe would replace Xavier... What do you guys think?

Ollie had his chances but didn't take them. At least he didn't give up after the loss of that 2nd set...

So, who will play doubles tomorrow? I think that if Xavier is feeling better it's possible to let him and Kristof team up. It's such an important match.

I'm dissappointed in both.

Indeed Christophe didn't seem motivated, he gives this impression too often. I'm not sure he could win against Koubek, but he was playing for Belgium, he could at least have tried, or given the impression. I'm wondering if I have ever seen him win a match, I probably have but I can't remember. He is talented and a steady top-100 player, but he doesn't always play like that. I have seen him play live once and he lost 6-0, 6-0

I think Olivier often starts slow in a match, he never gives the impression to have a lot of energy at the beginning of a match. I think his poor first set cost him the match.
I think the reason why Melzer could come back in the second set was because he had won the first set so easy, that gave him the confidence. I think Olivier never should have started the match so bad. I don't understand why they can give such an unmotivated impression.
Olivier did win the third and fourth set, but if you're stuck in a fifth set that's not a good sign, because anything can happen in a fifth set.
I think Olivier could have won in four sets (even if he lost the first), but he should have made the first set tougher for Melzer.

I just realized how much bad luck we're havinf in Daviscup lately...

In 2001 we had to play France (with Pioline, Grosjean and Clement) in the 1st round
Had to leave the World group, but came back this year after some wins to draw Spain in the 1st round IN Spain, on Clay.
Now we had only about 30% chance to draw a country where we wouldn't be able to play at home. We drew Austria, had to play out, on clay.
Then one of our best players gets injured and can't play so Ollie has to play singles and doubles and had to start against Koubek after already playing 9 sets of tennis...

I really hope we get a bye for the first round now so we can get back in the Worldgroup as soon as possible!! I really think we belong there!
