Sorry, maybe I should have seen it as well more relaxed nd maybe I shouldn't have even made one single post in this thread, but it made me sick this day how Sigmagirl invented things that were just not true.

Neely, that is what made me post in that thread as well. For some of the above-named posters, it seems that the inconvenient truth isn't going to stop them from starting up a good row. Note that they didn't like us calling them on it as well. Such antics are best left to the school playground if you ask me. I'm still waiting for info from Rebecca with links to posts from Tangy that are so much worse than she and her cohorts have posted. Guess I was right about me holding my breath being fatal

Hey guys,

I am very excited for Rainer's match against Feli! Auf geht's Rainer!!
I really think he did a great job reaching the QF in Basel. It's a pity that he lost - on my birthday - against Nalbandian when he was so close. But I think he showed some good form last week and I have a good feeling for next season already. He gave me a lot of hope so to say last week!
Also, a warm welcome to crystalchips!

damn... ... okay, Rainer's season is over now with another 1st round loss!

He lost to Lopez 6-7(3) 4-6

He missed a set point in the 1st set and then, of course, Lopez won the tiebreak. He looked like much closer to break Lopez having 15-30 or 30-30 many times, but, of course, Lopez took the first real chance to break Rainer's serve in the whole match as Rainer served at *4-5, to break for the match finally.

Okay, now he has should take some holidays in November, and then working in December to come back strong next season again.

Well unfortunately Rainer finished his season as he started it - lost 7-6 6-4 to Lopez, despite having a SP in the first set and BPs in the second . But his first-serve percentage in the second set was 46% according to the tourney stats, so it's no great surprise he got beaten, that's a dire percentage.

This year really has been bad. Here's one stat in my mind: 30 tournaments entered, losing in R1 in 19 of them . I don't think he's gonna be seeded for the Oz Open and knowing his luck he'll probably get Federer in R1 there or something

Let's just hope a long winter break will recharge his batteries and help him rediscover that winning mentality

I also don't think so, only if he get lucky and some other players ranked in front of him pull out.

Rainer's new ranking at the beginning next year will be around #35, right?

46% first serve percentage? well, to look on the positive side, he can now take some time off and like SC said, have a better year in 2005
I really hope he doesn't draw someone like Fed in the 1st round at AO

According to Judio's stats thread (http://www.menstennisforums.com/show...78&postcount=1), his entry ranking will be 39. This may sink further depending on how some of the players close behind him do in Paris. So unless he does really well in the 2/3 tournies before the Oz Open, he'll be an un-seed

I for one is happy that the year is over for Rainer.

At least he achieved one of his goal this year, winning a medal in Olympic.

I will save my positive energy till December and start cheering him on for next year.

Rainer, enjoy a nice long holiday (take longer off than last year... it'll do you well!)
Don't worry to much about the past season... Next year is a whole new year, and I've got a feeling it'll be a far better one than this year...

BTW: I think it might be better for him if he's unseeded (unless off course he draws someone like Federer...) because he won't be under so much pressure. Clearly he doesn't like being the favorit. He prefers a role as underdog...

Default Re: The Rainer Schuettler Cheering Thread

Here's an interview with Rainer posted on a German news site today. I'll give a rough translation of the best of it.
http://www.netzeitung.de/sport/tennis/311751.html

Quote:
Netzeitung: Herr Schüttler, Sie hatten sich vorgenommen, in diesem Jahr Ihre Top Ten-Position hartnäckig zu verteidigen. Dieses Ziel haben Sie klar gefehlt. Was ist denn so nachhaltig schief gelaufen?

Q: Your aim was to defend your top-10-position in the rankings. You have clearly missed this goal. What went wrong?
A: The period of recovery between 2003 and 2004 was simply too short. I was not able to recharge my battery fully and didn't give myself enough of a rest period. Instead I was mulling over defending my ranking position. I should have gone into the season full of confidence, but this was just not there.

Quote:

Q: After the TMC a year ago you said: I cannot go for longer than 10 days' holiday, because I want to start playing tennis again. Did you not notice how exhausted you were then?
A: I am not the type of person who can laze about doing nothing. Therefore after the end of the season I only took a short time off and began my normal preparations again. But of course playing TMC meant losing two or three weeks of rest from the Tour, and that took away more strength. Now I realise this better.

Quote:

Q: Already in Australia, on your favourite court surface, you seemed to be flat and lethargic.
A: It was the start of the year and I already felt slightly burnt-out. I noticed that I could not up my game when I wanted or needed to. I played really crap. It was a bitter experience after the previous successes.

Quote:

Q: You cracked under the pressure to show everybody that after 2003 you belonged among the best tennis players on the Tour
A: But this pressure did not come from outside, it came from me myself. I had to confirm to myself that I belonged to the tennis elite, that 2003 was not a one-off. What was missing in me was composure in critical situations - exactly that which I had shown in my best season.

Quote:

Q: There were a few moments during the season where one could think: now Rainer Schüttler will turn things around - for example the final at Monte Carlo or the Olympics.
A: I also had this hope. But I also noticed: the interest and fun in the whole thing are missing, it's constantly a struggle. And being honest, there were no sound results to build anything upon. At the big tournaments, the Slams and the Masters, it was a catastrophe. I just have to put this year behind me, end of story. The only thing I could describe as a success was the Olympic silver medal. The rest was largely a big non-event, from which I must learn.

Quote:

Q: Are you now able to take a longer break, to gain some distance in order to rest and recharge?
A: I must do this and will do so. Until the last week of November I will not touch a tennis racket. And to be honest I don't want to hear anything about tennis for the next few weeks. I'm ready for a holiday with no tennis.

Quote:
Netzeitung: Was sind die Kernziele für 2005?

Schüttler: Ich will zurück in die Top Ten.
Q: What are your main aims for 2005?
A: I want to get back into the top 10. And I want to fight for a place at TMC in Shanghai

Good summing-up of the year. I'm glad he realises that he was totally knackered after last year (even though he kept denying it) and that next year he'll be kicking butt again
