And seems to me Rainer's season will be over after R1 in Paris next week.

I read the scoring thread but only the pages immediately after the match. I know it's frustrating when Rainer could not hold serve but Nalbandian is one of the best returner on tour.

Good luck next year, Rainer.

I don't want yet to believe that Rainer's season is over after one match in Paris.
Apparently he didn't play badly this week and from reports what Rosie said it was really okay what Rainer player for one and a half sets. Maybe he can raise or at least keep this level and maybe he gets to catch Feli López on an "off-target" day.
A lof of "maybe"s, but then it could be one final effort from Rainer and no 1st round loss.

I really wanted Rainer to beat David. I put $10 vcash on him, and I had 4/1 odds.

Hi Crystalchips, glad there's another Shaker fan out there!

I hope he can get past R1 in Paris next week (the tournament, not the rich bimbo ). He needs to work on his mental game IMO, to relearn how to close out a match. He really should have won this one in straight sets. Oh well, at least he fought till the end

Well, this time he was the underdog and from what i've heard he never gave up. Go Rainer !! Nalbandian it's always complicated for him. Now finish the season with a good showing at Paris. Remeber, Rainer, a seed in AO is in danger, but sometimes i think being the underdog at Melbourne would be better for him

Since he lost 1st round in AO this year as one of the top seed, I can't see any difference being a seed or not in AO2005. But if he continues to slip, he may not even make TMSs and that's terrible, IMO.

Why did he have to choke? If he improves on his serve percentage, he may be able to get past Feli . But I'm glad he fought to the end, that's our boy!

URGH I promised myself I wouldn’t look at Rainers match results last night since EuroSport mentioned they were recording Rainers match and showing it at 10am this morning. THEY DIDN’T……. damn typical
Yeah I’m hacked off Rainer didn’t win but I’m more hacked off with the completely childish comments from ppl elsewhere on this board and we know who they are.

I'm reasonably confident he will be back next year on top form. He'll no longer be the "hunted" like he was this year, less points to defend (until TMS Monte Carlo anyway) and people's expectations will be dampened after this year - in summary, less pressure.

I just had the most lousy day dealing with leaking pipes and all in my house, but when I switched on the television, there was my beloved Rainer being interviewed on the ATP Tennis Show on Super Sports!! They featured him in action in his lovely red shirt, and he also talked about how 2004 has not lived up to expectations generated from his good results in 2003. But he said he hopes to rest now and improve in 2005. Lets all cross our fingers (and toes too, if you can manage it!!) and hope so!

He really really made my day!! YAY!!

I hope that some of us Rainer fans, who could be also found in this famous thread some days ago in GM, aren't put now in the same category with GWH, Rebecca, sigmagirl, rassklovn, maratski & others who are more famous for their always ongoing fights against Tangerine.
But as most of you did notice and could see, the problem started as sigmagirl said something that Rainer fans during the match called it over too soon (and exactly the opposite was the truth, we said more than once that we are scared Rainer could blow it until he did not conver the match point).
Sorry, maybe I should have seen it as well more relaxed nd maybe I shouldn't have even made one single post in this thread, but it made me sick this day how Sigmagirl invented things that were just not true.

good... so far concerning that...

now let's concentrate on Paris TMS... 1st round: Rainer vs Feliciano Lopez

PLEASE, Rainer!
One final effort this season would be great!

I don't know yet when this match is scheduled...
