2004 RCA Committments (Yes, Already!) The A-Train & A-Rod
Andre Agassi and Andy Roddick Announce Commitment to 2004 RCA Championships
RCA Championships officials are pleased to announce that they have secured commitments from
the top two American tennis players for the 2004 RCA Championships.
“ We are pleased that at this early date, we have received commitments from the best two players in American tennis today,” said Tournament Director Rob MacGill.
Andre Agassi, currently the number one player in the world, will make his first appearance in Indianapolis since his runner-up showing in 1998. Earlier this year, the Las Vegas native captured his 8th Grand Slam title at the Australian Open when he defeated Germany’s Rainer Schuettler in straight sets. Agassi, who turned pro in 1986, also captured singles titles in Miami, San Jose and Houston in 2003.
Andy Roddick, who just last year was the youngest American (20) to finish in the year-end Top 10 since Michael Chang in 1992, is currently ranked number six in the world. Roddick, who resides in Boca Raton, Florida, increased his career singles to seven with wins in St. Poelten and London/Queen’s Club. He also reached the semi-finals at Wimbledon and the Australian Open.
Roddick is making his first appearance in Indianapolis this year and won his first match Tuesday night in three sets, two going into tie-breakers. After the match, Roddick expressed his appreciation to the Indianapolis crowd for its support in a closely contested match. MacGill noted that area tennis fans came to the RCA Championships anxious to see Roddick and other American favorites make a strong showing. “Andy won a great match last night and we expect more great competition as we draw closer to the weekend finals.”
