I think we forget about Daniel because he is already established and has been winning for years. I think we get excited about other players here because we keep wanting the superstar singles player that we never have had.

Erik won't get high enough for the qualies, but 5 is the most we have had in an major is years, not even sure when the last time this happened.

And remember how few points these guys have to defend the first few months of next year. All of them.

I would imagine Raonic should get into the draw, and Polansky and Dancevic have the potential to make it, but I don't think Bester or Pospisil are at that point yet.

well 104 are direct into the MD, Then we have what 120 direct into the qualies? So worse case scenario 224 is the QD cutoff, and therefore Milos, and Peter will be in guarenteed, we all know that loads of people don't even sign up for these things for many reason including don't want to travel that far virtually knowing the won't qualify so the cutoff will be much much, much lower than that, so Frank is pretty much assured to get in as well. Last year the cutoff was 350. By that Vasek, and Philip would be in. Erik is currently 36 ranking points outside of that 350 number, so it would be far fetched to think he would get in. But is he playing any other futures after this week? Maybe he could earn enough points to get in by the deadline if he does phenomially well. Also, I think futures ranking points are added 1 week after the fact? I can't remember but did Erik play anywhere last week?

He's playing a $15000 in australia after this weeks $15000. the points breakdown for a $15000 is 27, 15, 8, 3, 1. being 36 points out of last years cutoff, he'd have a realistic shot with a a win and a semi, or a win and a final. Back to back tournament wins should get him in, while it would be a big streach for him to get in with back to back finals

cutoff last year was 324, and the year before that was 311. So mayb elast year was an anomolie(no clue how to spell that), or maybe it was a pattern of lowering cutoffs which gets lower this year

but looking at the past 3 years it'll be close for vasek(who I'll mention would have got in last year but he withdrew, will he do the same this year?), and it'll be very tough for Erik

O sorry my bad I guess that was miscommunicated a bit on my part.

What I meant to say was:
I'd imagine that Raonic will qualify for the tournament, and Dancevic and Polansky both have the potential to qualify, but I feel that even if Bester and Pospisil get into the draw, they won't qualify.

I'm not sure Raonic is as sure to qualify as we may think. As it stands now he may not get a seed, and there are some potential tough opponents he could get

I agree about Frank and Peter although I would give Frank a better shot the Peter.

I could see Bester qualifying if he got a nice draw a played real weel but it is a long shot, but I agree about Vasek, he would need a miracle to qualify but worse players have randomly qualified GS's before

Well then again Vasek put in a good performance against Dustin Brown a while ago. If he were to play a player of that caliber in AO qualifying first round, and got a win, I'm sure he could ride the momentum to at least the final round.

Tennis Canada coaching update on the men's side from OpenCourt blog:

Quote:
On the men's side, longtime ATP Tour pro Frederic Niemeyer will no longer be the full-time coach of rising star Milos Raonic, after the two spent close to 30 weeks together this past season.

Eight months ago, the 19-year-old was ranked No. 425; he is now just outside the top 150 - a huge jump.

Tennis Canada's high-performance chief, Louis Borfiga, said yesterday the time required on the road posed a major challenge for Niemeyer, who has a family.

In 2011, Raonic will most likely work with former top-40 Tour player Galo Blanco, a Spaniard who had been working with Steven Diez, a 19-year-old Spaniard repatriated to Canada currently ranked No. 468.

Niemeyer remains a national coach and will travel with some of the other players, including 20-year-old Vasek Pospisil. He'll also work with some of the juniors.

Diez, Peter Polansky and Frank Dancevic are also part of a national men's squad that will have a similar group dynamic.
Also cool news is that they're planning to put in 4 new red clay courts at the NTC
