Some of you guys may be interested in the announcement just out about the second year of the Toronto National Training Centre (7-13 years). (I thought last year it was up to 12 years - am I wrong or did they decide it made more sense to keep the younger kids together up to 13 years?).

The coaching team includes:

Dean Coburn, Toronto National Training Centre Coach (is this a sideline in addition to coaching Peter?)
and
Bruno Agostinelli Jr., Toronto National Training Centre Assistant Coach

It's also good to see Bruno back into the fold, he will make a great coach for the young guys. Problem is I couldn't find him in the picture?

I still don't get how Bruno got that Wildcard to the Rogers Cup a few years back. He's never been a top player, not even in the OTA. He really didn't deserve it.

he was pretty good in NCAA, if i'm not mistaken he got ranked as high as #4 in there at some point. but from there to get a WC in the rogers cup, yeah i agree it is a lot...

does anyone know if he totally stopped playing tournaments?

It would seem so because he now has become a trainer, he hasn't played in any tournament and you would at least think he would play in the Canadian futures and he didn't even do that. My guess is that he has moved on. (I believe that he was as high as number 2 in the NCAA rankings in his final year).

He won a pretty important DC 5th rubber last year and fully deserved the WC.

He won one match so he deserves a spot among tennis' elite players. I'm going to respectfully disagree. Bruno couldn't even compete in the Challenger tour, and Tennis Canada decides to throw him into a Masters Tournament.

I'm looking at his 2009 stats now. He lost in the 2nd round of a Futures in the U.S., albeit to rising star Gastao Elias. Then he got that Davis Cup win... coupled with a loss. After that he got a win over Casten Ball in a challenger, followed by 2 more challenger losses, before the loss to Polansky. So on the year he had earned 7 points, and gotten 3 wins (including Davis Cup and Futures). That's not Master's material to me.

The year before he had 0 points because he couldn't even qualify for a Challenger event.

So in my opinion he was a wasted wildcard, and the only reason he had a chance was because he was put up against another wildcard. Tennis Canada should learn how to deal out wildcards, maybe if they gave some to foreign players, foreign countries might start returning the favour...

Nguyen has pulled out of everything since he defaulted in the Canadian U18 in August - I am guessing that he was given a cooling off period, or forced to stop playing as a punishment. I had been wondering whether he had just got fed up with tennis and thrown it all over, but he is signed up for the G3 beginning October in Montreal, so the former explanation seems more likely.
What happened with Nguyen? I'm confused..

Thanks for the results! Someone should post them in the tournament thread under "futures". Hmm, you say no surprises, but I've heard Haessing is pretty good, so he shouldn't lose here, or?

Good to hear there's something going on with coaching in Canada. At least Canada tries to develop talent and some good tennis players, unlike the Norwegian federation.

I just saw Peter Polansky lost in the challenger, no surprise maybe, but.. Still sucks!

So.. where is he going now, is he going to try and qualify for the ATP 250 event?

ETA: he managed to get only 6 points for the 2nd round in the challenger. That is not going to get him far in the rankings. He really should try to qualify for the ATP 250 event.

And hopefully his draws in the next challengers won't be so tough!

FYI: I also read that Milos is going to Kuala Lumpur to try to get in the ATP 250 event, well, at least according to his tweet.

well when you consider that the only other options were uruaguay or columbia canada got off pretty easily and the second round is ecuador instead of brazil so..canada has a very nice draw next year when you think of what could have been

like columbia in round 1 and brazil in round 2
