Hope the Swedes will win anyway.

This is the Swedish article on the Stockholm Open site which has more info than the English one.

http://www.stockholmopen.se/t3s.asp?...0&x=1&a=445370

English:

It's tennis that I love

In todays second match on centre court Andreas Vinciguerra defeated Frenchman Nicolas Devilder in 2 straight sets 6-4 6-1. Kirstof Vliegen is through to the second round after defeating Nicolas Massu 6-2 6-4.

Andreas Vinciguerra has had many injury problems for several years and therefore has not been able to play his best tennis for a long time. The successes that many expected from him after his final place in Båstad and winning in Copenhagen have failed to be realised but now at last it's looking brighter for the Scanian. In the later part of 2006 he has won more and more matches at the Challenger level, among others he won the Manerbios challenger.

"Vince" received a Wild Card into this years Stockholm Open and this evening he showed that he was well worth it. The Scanian took command straight away despite feeling a little nervous. "It's a special feeling to be back on the centre court and in the beginning I felt a litte nervous, but I relaxed after some time," said Vincivuerra after the match.

Vinciguerra kept command and at the end of the set and coach Magnus Larsson noted 6-4 in his charge's favour. In the 2nd set Vince totaly dominated and he easily took the set 6-1. The match offered pleasant tennis beween both lefthanders who for the whole time were trying to use the court with their forehands.

"I played fairly weell, it is always difficult with the first indoor match. Det is great to get the win," summarised the Scanian about his performance.

"It has been difficult with the injuries but in my heart I have known that I will play tennis, it's tennis I love," answered the fighter the question about his thoughts when the injury problems where at their worst.

Vinciguerra's goals for the year were to finish inside the top 100. The last time he found himself inside the top 100 was the 3rd of November 2003.

In the next round Vince plays the 3rd seeeded Czech Tomas Berdych which will be a tough match for the home player.

"It shall be interesting to meet Berdych, a very good standard to gauge where I am at the moment", commented Vinci about his 2nd round opponent.

I noticed Vinci's doubles match was cancelled. Does anyone know why?

I'd love to see Vinci back on the tour. He's had a long troubled road back, but this tournament has been encouraging.

No, he is playing with Johan Landsberg against Björkman/McEnroe at the moment. But they are about to loose...

Vinci vilar

Translation : The short version

- Vinci planned to play challengers in November to reach his goal of being in the top 100 before the end of 2006. He has a sore knee and is playing it safe and is taking a break from international play for rest, training and playing Eliteserien (Div 1 tennis).

- It's nothing very dangerous, just some inflammation, wants to be in good form at the start of the year to play qualies for ATP events and qualify for the AO, said a hopeful Vinciguerra.

He again is out for mimimum 6 weeks. I think his career is over now. And it has never really startet. Only 2,3 years in the pros without any injury. That is so sad. He had a lot of talent.
