Not sure, but his acting skills are underrated.

Before he reinvented himself with his James Dean lock.

No, my friend. Nadal is treated as the Big Black Wolf. His haters actually agree that he has a shot at winning every tournament he enters. That's why they shake with fear, in case Djokovic bombs out early, as they believe only he can be a serious threat to Evil Moonballer's Anti-tennis.

In case of Raonic, people treat his as just a mediocre servebot, who won't do anything significant.

Yeah, it's been funny to read all the comments. Today's level was no big surprise to anybody who watches him play regularly. Of course, there aren't many here who watch him at all (it often seems like his many haters have never even seen him play a match the way they talk about him).

I don't know if he's the most "underrated" on MTF, but he definitely hasn't gotten the recognition for his accomplishments and potential that some others do.

The real question is what will the post count of MaratandMilos reach on this thread?

I think the better question is whether it will be more or less than the amount of posts from Murray trolls seething in another Raonic thread?

Nope. He's rated accordingly. He'll get manhandled with time (again).

Yes. Yes, he is.

Considering the amount of love guys like Nishikori, Gulbis and Dimitrov (even if the love for the latter is balanced out by his rabid pathological haters) get on here, you could be forgiven if you forget that Milos is actually ranked higher than all of them (as of this Monday and well before that as well).

You're probably right. Maybe if MTF watched more Milos' matches they wouldn't call him a servebot.

I can't remember when was the last time on ATP Tour, I've seen someone hit so many killer returns in a 2-setter, that Raonic hit against Nishikori in Madrid. He's much better at ROS, or rallies, than guys like Isner (as much as I like him), Karlovic, etc.

No. Up until around a year ago Raonic was the most overrated player on the planet. However, the hype has really died down and now I'd say he is rated about right. Certainly not underrated. It is very hard for someone who can't play tennis properly to be underrated.

Raonic was never meant to be part of the establishment.

He was some runt practicing his serve, by himself, somewhere while Harrison, Tomic, and Dimitrov were getting sponsorships and hype left-and-right.

Then, boom, out of nowhere he won that title in San Jose in 2011, moved into the top 30, then 20, then 10 and kinda upset the established order.

The same thing with Nishikori, in a way. He wasn't meant to be part of the Nike/ATP hype machine so everyone's 'surprised' to find out he has a positive h2h against the other youngsters.

Default Re: Is Raonic the most underrated player on MTF?

I don't think he's the most underrated, but he's underrated for sure. He has a good game to back up his serve, far more so than Isner or Karlovic.

The results are also good, his Masters results so far this year are QF (lt. Dolgopolov), QF (lt.Nadal), QF (lt. Wawrinka), R16 (lt. Nishikori), SF (lt. Djokovic), they are pretty much in line with what you expect of a top 10 player. Of course these results also expose a big problem, he tends to lose to the first player who can handle his serve well and be strong mentally (in form Dolgo fits the bill), but that's why he's not even higher in the tennis pecking order.

Judging by today's match vs Djokovic, that might change in the future anyway, we'll see. Raonic was holding his own in rallies quite decently and was very close to scoring his biggest win ever. The way some people talk about him here makes it seem like he's Karlovic or Isner V2 when he's definitely much more than that. He's a decent candidate to make WTF in November.

He sort of shares with Nadal that the majority of people underrate him, but those that don't overrate him so hugely that he doesn't seem underrated.

he's 700 points behind 8th ranked dimitrov right now and were almost at the half way mark so he's going to need some help. he'll need to continue what he's been doing this year but also hope that the guys ahead of him drop off and do nothing the rest of the year which isnt likely to happen. Looking at the guys ahead of him he's really unlikely to catch up to many of them. the most likely would be nishikori and thats more because i could see injuries holding him back. You also have to take in to account that murray is ahead of him by a couple hundred and his best part of the season is yet to come

id actually call raonic a long shot for the WTF now .. yeah there's a lot of time left but the guys ahead of him have such a massive lead that they basically only have to make sure to either equal raonic at the big events or lose close enough to him that it really wont matter what he does.

i see him finish just outside again

Raonic (.704 win percentage career) is a significantly better hard court player over his career than Dimitrov (.550). I have little doubt he'll make up the ground when that part of the season starts.

Who overrates him here? If you're referring to me, I personally don't think he should be ranked any higher than what he is right now, he's not nearly consistent enough to be on the level of a guy like Berdych yet. He's the 9th or 10th best player in the world right now (depending on Kei's health).
