It's a pretty severe train wreck. Amazing how well Nadal is doing as horribly as he is playing just because there's about two and a half other players who are capable of playing on the surface at all. Five years ago even wouldn't have made the QF.

Too bad Söderling got mono. He'd be roasting today's clay field.

To tackle just the surface of this last bit: why don't you look at Scud's slam record. He was usually losing to Sampras in Wimbledon, once Agassi IIRC. He has another final, USO I believe. How is that an argument in your favor, even disregarding the fact that we should really look at the performance of the player in the given final, not just their track record. The simple fact is that he was no pushover as Federer's opponent for the first slam. If Federer was worse in blocking those huge serves, he could easily have lost. But he's not, he was very good at it until a few years ago. Either way, there isn't a shred of a doubt Scud is a more formidable opponent for a first slam than Puerta.

As for Roddick, how is it even relevant whether we'll define him as typical grass or HC player? Why on earth do you think that makes your case in any way at all? Are you going to argue Nadal is more of a typical grasscourter than Roddick? If not, where does that leave your argument? What does the undeniable slow death of grasscourt tennis have to do with any of this? Federer himself stopped playing typical grasscourt tennis soon after that 2001 classic with Sampras, so why does it matter if his opposition did too.

You're so intent on diminishing anything Federer-related and glorfiying anything Nadal-related that viewing things in their full spectrum is simply not an option. Like I said, you have an agenda, and the facts will be twisted to suit it no matter what. Let me ask you just one thing, if Roddick is such a pushover, why was a well-past-his-prime Duck still able to beat prime Nadal? I'm genuinely curious how you intend to wiggle out of that one.
I'm talking about Roddick on grass, the only time they played on grass Rafa won. And the H2H is 7-3 on rafa's side, and one of the roddick wins over rafa is frmo USO 2004.

Rafa beat Rodduck on every surface. 4-3 hc, 2-0 clay and 1-0 grass despite 2 matches being played on 2004.

Ah, you'll wiggle out by not answering at all and simply changing the topic. Figures. Goodday, goodbye and happy continued cluelessness to you.

It certainly is the weakest and I've said it before this thread was made.

Nadal not at his best will still win 90% of matches where he's struggling, he's had an easy ride since 2005 yet people have the cheek to mention Federer's so called weak era (1 year in 2004 of beating Hewitt, peak Roddick, Agassi, peak Nalbandian, Safin, Ferrero to win his 3 slams)

Not a chance in hell, the clay era from mid 70s to 2003 was the glory years, those two would've had no chance, Ferrer certainly wouldn't have reached a final. I still see Ferrer as more of a HC specialist than clay.

Albert Costa was a true clay giant but outside of his deserved French title, only just about won 1 more big clay title (Hamburg I believe), that tells you how tough 90's were.

With this i agree. Nadal is playing terrible at the moment yet he is still winning. There is nobody to challenge him on clay even when he is playing bad.

The same happened to Roger at his peak ,yet it must be because of weak era.

Double standards....

This era is clearly the weakest of the fluke slam winners. What you do is repeat what fed fans have done with joy since 1999.

Of what exactly? So clay isn't the majority of the current top 10's forte, so what!

In the world of more homogenized surfaces and the perception of all-surface players it can only go so far. The clay court type player is not the "in" style these days. It is what it is. Things ebb and flow.

Of course, federer and players that had no win on masters1000 clay, no slam title over any multiple slam winner or olympic and Davis cup top ten players and the injured ones for half the decade at their peak were the best players of all time, up right there with laver, rosewall, pancho Gonzales, Borg, etc. that was what fed fans said here.
