"je reste optimiste" = I stay positive or I am still positive, right?
I think Arnaud is a bit like me, always optimistic about his tennis.

I love the first photo. Even if they lost the tie, Arnaud is still my Davis Cup hero after that amazing match and this photo fits perfectly. I am still very happy I decided to go to Belgrade, being able to witness that match was priceless.

Something like a translation by google

Between two ATP, Arnaud Clement plays with the Interclub with TC Geneva. "La Clé" confided to the "Matin."

Bandana tight on the front and sunglasses wedged on his nose, Arnaud Clement does not go unnoticed on the ATP tour. Yet it is Mr. All-the-world dispute that the LNA with the Interclub Tennis Club Genève-Eaux-Vives. The opportunity to meet one of the deans of the tour, radiant and relaxed as the first day.

Your presence in the Interclub is rather surprising. What motivates you to come and play here with the TC-Eaux-Vives Geneva?

It is a set. I'm happy to play here at home in Geneva. Sleep at home on the current circuit is a luxury. It is also a hollow sport period, where I can the pleasure of playing in team.

You live in Geneva for eleven years, what is your relationship with your adopted city?

It is a place of serenity and rest in the middle of the madness of travel and tournaments. I just somehow recharge my batteries. By cons, in winter, I have a little more difficult to stay here (laughs) ...

At 33, you are one of the deans of the circuit. During the past fifteen years, what are the main changes you have seen?

Surfaces have been slowed, it is a fact, presumably to avoid the servers matches where they chained the aces. But that has not changed much, as players serve increasingly big to overcome the slowdown of the surfaces. The players are nowadays most impressive, suddenly it goes faster at all levels. New technologies have made a lot in this direction : you can hit harder while keeping the ball within the court. An evolution that has somewhat killed the diversity of styles. Today, the game was standardized.

How a small player (note: it measures 1.72 m) like you is doing it?

With the speed. The problem today is that the big guys move very well too. You see guys at 1.90 m very swift.

It is often said that a Grand Slam final is a match apart ... If you could replay your own (note: the Australian Open against Agassi in 2001), would you do things differently?

I would not change anything. That day, he moved over the moon. In our two previous confrontations, I had beaten him. But there he was just too strong. I should have known that a champion like him had the power to excel at major events.

You hold the record for the longest match in Davis Cup (about six hours against Rosset in Neuchâtel in 2001) and only the incredible Isner-Mahut (more than eleven hours) beat your match against Santoro at Roland Garros (more from half past six in 2004). Can we speak of chance?

I had some very long matches, in fact, I have also lost more than won (laughs). I do not particularly like them, but they fall on me! It's true that I am a very catchy and I like that kind of challenge. Or maybe I like tennis so much that I can not leave the court (laughs)!

The relationship between the players did it change on the circuit since you started? Is it possible to make friends? The fellow countryman with the exception ...

Personally I have always had difficulty with foreign languages. So it was hard for me to communicate with non-francophones. Otherwise I've always found the atmosphere on the men's tour was excellent, unlike the women's tour, which runs on other bases.

You reach a certain age, do you have already asked the question ...

(He stops.) ... To stop? It is true that physical pain are more present than before, so it's harder to maintain a high rate of training. At times when the pain takes over the pleasure, yes, the issue has already arisen.

And pleasure, there are still often?

In recent years I have had a lot of physical problems. But also some great moments in a season where I say, "That's why I work, and it's worth it." But I must admit they are becoming increasingly rare and that the end is approaching with great strides.

You are still an excellent player double the London Olympics in 2012 could be a good goal, right?

To be honest, I do not think at all. Because I really focus my preparation on the simple. For now I do not think i have the level compared to the young French generation, which is present on the circuit. But who knows, in tennis anything can go very fast.

In Switzerland, there is talk of a possible Federer-duo Hingis in mixed doubles. It is possible for you?

Already, I find the principle of the mixed doubles event at the Olympics as a bit absurd, because there are only four tournaments a year (note: Grand Slam). Now, with Federer just might work, though, with singles and doubles that are already in the program, consider the mixed doubles seem a bit ambitious. Anyway, I do not think it is a priority for Roger.

Thank you !

Well, his answers about Switzerland are so hypocrital, I mean, everybody knows he's never in Geneva !! When he's not in tournament, he shares his time between Paris and Aix. I think he only spends a few weeks in Geneva in summer, but I really wonder how many weeks it represents per year ...

I agree with his point of view about tennis nowadays, that's true.
And his relationships with players on the tour: nothing has really changed ...

I changed some words of google translations but he says he search the pleasure and still plan to plan next year if no pains but he will consider the question at the end of the year

Quote:
It is already 4 pm. The sun hits hard on the courts in Saint-Rémy where began the Trophee des Alpilles. But Arnaud Clement quietly seated at a table in the shade alongside Jocelyn Ouanna looks tired.

Even his sunglasses can not hide his fatigue. "In the U.S., it's time that I got up. I have not fully recovered from jet lag", recognizes the Aixois, 34 in December.

The former 10th player in the world (in 2001), now fell to 153# in the ATP ranking, that is returned Saturday from New York where he was eliminated in the first qualifying round of the US Open. This defeat has enabled him to embark on this challenge in his region.

"My early exit is one of the reasons for my presence at Saint-Remy, recognizes Arnaud Clement. But it's also because I know Bernard Fritz (the tournament director, ed) very long time. I have always kept a very good relationship with my former coach. This week, I do not play the tournament if I had not been so close to my family. "

For four years in the late 90s, Bernard Fritz has indeed resulted in two of Provence: Arnaud Clement and Sebastien Grosjean. If the second stopped his career in 2010, Clement also hopes to continue until 2012: "I will point late in the season, but I think to continue next year if there are no pains."

This season he accumulates the earnings saw-tooth (5 wins, 9 losses), when he had concluded the previous season on a great success (twice with Llodra) in the final of the Davis Cup. This leaves three early exit since mid-July.

"I come here to try to regain confidence, says the little right-hander whose game needs a lot of efforts. I'm pretty good at training, but in recent matches, I struggled to put my game up and have fun. So here, I hope to go far, but I'm really going to focus on the concept of pleasure because I had too little these days! "

After an hour of training, Arnaud Clement, who now benefit from the support of his girlfriend Nolwenn Leroy, seemed in great shape. Forget the injuries to the shoulder and elbow of a start to this "poor" season .

Arnaud Clement will be headlining the tournament saint-remy, who will face this afternoon Slovak Miloslav Mecir (337th). But the Aixois could share the fervor of the audience with ... Victoria Azarenka.

The (beautiful) Belarus, currently fifth player in the world and eliminated in the third round of the US Open by Serena Williams, accompanies her boyfriend, Sergei Bubka junior. Clement will try to spend a few rounds in Saint-Remy, but he already knows he will fall beyond the 200# on Monday, losing the benefit of points earned last year when he reached the third round of the U.S. Grand Slam.

Thanks interesting interview which let us knowing his feelings just after St Remy. He seems to have a renewed confidence for the end of the season. I hope his draw in Metz will be playable and that he'll keep on playing in a good shape and decide to continue next year. I understand his vision of the "after tennis" period, he wants to think about it quietly and probably have private projects.
