Depends on whom. It's great for women who don't have much of a natural waist, but if you're like me and a small waist is more or less your only asset... Then it's really not very flattering.

I was just thinking of body shape, though. I'm small, have short legs and wide hips but a big hip/waist difference, so basically, for women like me, a high waist is not very flattering.

Unless you're in a Jane Austen period movie (in that case, I have to say that curvy Jennifer Ehle looked a thousand times better than skinny Keira Knightley).

For women like Kim Sears, well, I'd say almost anything can be flattering. She seems to be of medium height, she's thin but not skinny. And she can wear high heels like this, when it hurts me just to look at the picture

The fashionistas are obsessed with high waists. "It makes your legs look longer!" they say, because the legs look like they start higher up. That's great, but there are a lot of detrimental factors. If you're a bit heavier and have a big chest, then it just looks like you are fat and like your boobs are sagging down to your waist (because the waist has been brought up!). You look kind of hunched over and tired, like you're slouching. I like the upper part of the body to look longer and lean. A nicely defined area between the natural waist and chest makes you look tall, fit and younger.

Haha, I wouldn't know, because I kinda avoid fashionistas like the plague...

But yes I agree with you. I may have short legs and be in need of making them look longer, but me with a high waist, I'd look like a barrel, probably

It probably looks good on the body type that's becoming more and more common (and for whom most clothes are designed nowadays): girls who are mostly thin but have neither hips nor a "true" waist.

Well I won't go into details as my knowledge on the subject is way too limited to be a "fashionista". I like curves, and a well pulled off high waist is hot. I never really thought about whether it's difficult to pull it off in combination.

That said, this is all good. You be the judge on whether this is more about a true than high waist.
