Unluckiest player of all time for peaking in the only era in which he can't win one.

Ferrer such a cool guy It's a shame he has to tank to Nadull for the Spanish media and do it with a smile, we've seen what happens when the guys can't take it anymore like Verdasco.

Re: Wimbledon He choked very badly serving for 2-0 sets in the Wimbledon QF and also had set point on which he missed a difficult return (again) , would've had Tsonga in the SF and I think he would have won that the way he played Roddick, del Potro and Murray. Doubt he'd have beat Federer in the final though.

Don't know what people are talking about re: net clearance. The fact his backhand has zero net clearance is one of his biggest problems.
This is just not true.

Is this the new myth, that Ferrer plays flat over the net resembling an Agassi or Safin?

Well, he's right, he's never going to beat two of Nadal, Djokovic, Murray, del Potro and Federer back to back, especially at a Slam, actually even beating one of them takes exceptional circumstances and luck. I wonder when this reality will hit his delusional fans, just how many more times does Ferrer need to be humilliated deep in a Slam for it to happen?

Indeed Let's hope they can face a few times next year so JMDP can refresh his memory as he did at Wimbledon this year.

LOL love your new signature Lenders

I don't really know what to say about Ferrer's statement. I think he's being realistic as always. You could see it as a lack of belief, but I don't know... in a way, that's how he's got so far, by not having unrealistic expectations.

I'm not among those who think he has completely maxed his potential and could not possibly go any further. I think he still has room for improvement, especially mentally...
But it seems obvious that unless he gets a little lucky, he has very little chance of winning a Slam. So overall, there's no point in saying "Yes, I think I'm going to win a Slam next year", given the odds.

What reality, you think his fans expect Ferrer to win multiple slams? If anything, he's outperforming expectations, even made it into final this year

I don't really think it's in the realm of impossible. I mean, the stars aligned for Marion Bartoli at Wimbledon. Fed and Rafa lost to players playing ridiculously well and Muzz almost got sent packing in the quarters. If Ferrer can be consistent and efficient like he was at RG (it helped that Jo took out Fed for him and he owns Jo), he can make a final. Bad luck that he would've either had to play Rafa or Nole at RG.

Ferrer needs to believe in himself more. He does every once in a while against Rafa and look what happens.

I don't really like Ferrer nor want him to win a slam above many players, but:

Statements like that fucking piss me off. No wonder nothing ever changes at the top of men's tennis. Where's the self-belief from these guys, eh? Weak!

"To be fair" to Ferrer, Bartoli didn't face any Top 10 player en route to the Finals, and didn't face a Top 10 player on that Final (although, that time many considered -- including me -- that Lisicki was Top 10, even an equivalent of a Top 5 player that time). Ferrer, on the other hand had to face Djokovic if he had beaten Del Potro, and say Murray was eliminated by Verdasco (and if he doesn't get eliminated, that is about 3 Top 10 players Ferrer had to face that time). That said, I guess the same could be said on his RG -- before the Finals, he only faced a seeming out of sorts (IMO) Tsonga (that was a very horrible match for him, almost can't put the ball on court and almost always putting errors and relied on his serve to get points) for a Top 10er. That said, I don't think he should have that mentality (as realistic as it is), especially if he has endorsements that might not like self-proclaimed, "second-best" players endorse their products. I hoped he put a better wording on that statement.

Default Re: Ferrer doesn't think he can win slam

I don't think Ferrer has what it takes to beat an in form / motivated Djokovic, Nadal or Murray at a slam, i.e. the type of Djoko/Nadal/Murray that would show up against him in a slam final. He could take out one of them in a slam (Djokovic being the least likely, Murray the most likely), but he really needs a situation where he only needs to face one of the three and can catch them on a bad day. And those sorts of situations just aren't happening these days - there is always one of the Big 3 (and the Big 4 before that) who gets to the late stages of a slam and is in good enough shape to win it.

I don't think it's quite as impossible as some do - things can change, and if we end up in a situation where we see some more early upsets then I do think Ferrer has a shot at capitalising on that. But Djokovic has been extremely consistent in slams lately, and everything suggests Nadal will be right alongside him at the end of slams, so ask Ferrer "Do you think you'll be winning a slam in 2014?", i.e. do you think you'll be beating Djokovic or Nadal in a slam final (or quite likely both of them back to back), the sensible answer is definitely "No".
