Default Would this potential tennis match in 2014 rank as the GOAT sporting event?

Date: Monday, September 8th, 2014
Time: 5.00 PM
Place: Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, New York, USA
Venue: Arthur Ashe Stadium
What: USO Men's Singles Final
Who : Rafael Nadal vs. Roger Federer

Stake: Nadal going for the Calendar Year Grand Slam and a record-tying 17th Major; Federer going for Grand Slam #18. First Meeting in the Big Apple..

I know the chances of it happening may be are at 2% to 3 %; but can you imagine the hype for this? Would it be a GOAT sporting event?

The situation would be number one. But the quality of tennis would be NID in Rafa's favor.

Seriously, he's beaten the old man so often, that I would rather see him beat anyone else.
You know there's no rivalry here when as a Rafa fan, you find yourself cheering for Federer at some point in their matches.

Plus, I'm afraid for Slade's life.

How about no?

How anyone could think a NID 6-3 6-0 6-2 beatdown is the GOAT even is beyond me.

Even trying to give this thread the benefit of the doubt, you had to ruin it with Nadal-tardishness by saying Nadal is going for a CYGS...

If Nadal was doing well enough that he'd won the other three slams, then having to face Old Man Fed for his US Open final would not be some "epic" encounter at all... I mean, it might be something for Dull fans to cream over even more that the player he defeated was Federer in the only final they hadn't played yet, and it'd have some limited smybolic / nostalgic value... but even commentators constantly saying "Wimbledon 2008 final happened" can't make a dull beatdown entertaining or epic.

If Nadal had a really bad year (comparitively) and hadn't won any slam yet - let's say for ease that Djokovic and Murray won the first three - then Nadal beat Murray in the semis and Federer beat Djokovic, with both on relatively even footing and both trying to get their first slam of the year, that might be a bit more interesting or even "epic". But in the most likely scenario, where Nadal is doing much better than Federer, then Federer vs. Nadal at the US Open is no more epic than "Nadal gets an easy opponent at the US Open".

if and only if fed is playing at a great level lets say he beats djokovic in the semis and also fed would have to have beat nadal a few times before the match. then yes it would have the potential to be the goat match.
