The only reason it's actually even close in anyone's mind is because of the year's overall h2h between the two players and Djokovic's streak towards the end of the season while Nadal tapered off(as usual)

As I said, Nadal had more glory and this will be remembered as his year. He also had 2 Slams he didn't win a single match and in terms of points won at Slams, Djokovic is ahead.

As for US Open 2013, Nole was schooling until he played an abysmal game to let Nadal back in. Then it was choking city after he failed to break. Anyone who watched that match commented on it, and I am sure Nadal would admit it. 50% HC Djoker would still school peak Nadal on HC. He did in 2011

One of the worst years in recent memory and Nadal still gets schooled by an injured Steve Darcis? Just brilliant. Still can't believe a few Dulltards voted yes in the Abel troll poll asking if this was Nadal's best year. Shows what you "fans" think of him if you think this is as good as it gets

Says a lot that even this Nole had 3-3 head to head with Nadal and lost FO and Montreal due to petty mistakes and with a hilariously close scoreline In 2011, Novak's peak year, he absolutely destroyed Nadal easily, except for one close match. Even on grass, his weakest surface!
The French Open semis was one of Djokovics best ever matches on clay, and would probably be in the bottom 10% of matches Nadal has played on clay in his career. Djokovic still got super lucky to even reach a 5th set though.

According to you Djokovic is a worthless piece of shit though given that he plays 10% of his potential and awful more than half the matches during the all time peak of his career (2011-2013).

Djokovic is actually better.

3 Slam finals, 1 GS, World tour finals. Nadal was absent in AO, lost in 1st round of wimbly. No wonder he didn't get the award.

No.

YE#1, 5 ms and 2 slams is better than YE#2, 3 ms and 1 slam. I know ms are ATP but still. He didn't even win the Davis Cup final(should have played doubles) which is ITF like the slams where he has a thing for runner-up trophies.

The ATP named Borg as Player of the Year in 1978. In 82 and 89 the ATP Player of Year did happen to correspond to the random silly ITF award you are apparently talking about. There were disagreements in those years between the only two things that matter though:

1978: Connors ATP computer #1, Borg ATP Player of Year
1982: McEnroe ATP computer #1, Connors ATP Player of Year
1989: Lendl ATP computer #1, Becker ATP Player of Year

The other thing that matters is slam titles though and that settles the ties in the favor of Borg (78), Connors (82), Becker (89).

Of course this year Nadal was the victor in all of ATP computer #1, ATP Player of Year, and slam titles, making it a blowout, unlike those other 3 years you mentioned.

I disagree about RG SF being in Rafa's bottom 10%. Apart from short lapse of concentration (or choke if you wish) when he lost the 4th set and nearly the match - it was very high level match from Rafa. He was hitting winners left&right in fifth set which put pressure on Djoko.

Of course we're used to Nadal almost never choking sets on clay, but he reacted to his bad moment with best way possible. In the end it must have been one of his sweetest match wins ever. I'd rate it as one of the very best matches on clay I've ever seen. Perhaps above that might be Nadal vs Coria at Rome and Lendl vs Mac at RG.

Btw Jowilly, quit trolling and try to grow up a bit.

I am talking about his whole career. At this phase of his career the RG semis might be just barely below average for Nadal, but Nadal is a shadow of the clay court level player he was from 2005-2010 or even 2012 even when he actually plays his current best. That is obvious.

I agree it was one of the best clay matches ever. Only made possible between Djokovic and Nadal with Djokovic playing one of his best clay matches ever, and Nadal playing way past his clay prime, as Nadal in his clay prime is obviously way too much for Djokovic on the surface regardless how he plays. A truly great match requires not only a very high level of play, but the two players being evenly matched, with 2005-2010 Nadal on clay would never be with Djokovic.

Haasenqvistfan,

My opinion about Nadal's current level on clay is that it's generally higher now than it was in 2005&2006... his movement is worse but on the other hand he plays more aggressively and serves better.

Here's an informative graph about Nadal's points won% on clay, which I think is the most accurate way to measure his yearly level on clay.

In 2008 his level at RG was incredible... while in 2010 his level at MC was not of this world, with 63.7% points won.

In 2013 at Monte Carlo he was still suffering from his break from the game and imo his return of serve wasn't yet at it's best rest of the clay season.

I think he might play better on clay in 2014 than he did in 2013. I don't see a decline creeping in yet.

All I know is Nadal won 2 slam titles and the #1 ranking. Djokovic can have all he wants, because Nadal took the biggest prizes. The fact Nadal beat Djokovic in both those slams, is gigantic and soul-destroying for Djokovic. That's why there is now MAJOR pressure on Djokovic in Australia. Murray is the more important opponent for Nadal, because Murray has the potential to improve. Nadal has already seen everything Djokovic has to offer.
