Place your bets now. How often will Becker show up hungover to practice?

Lneders: One thing people need to understand about this so-called weak era is that it was 'weak' for Federer on HC and grass and for Nadal on clay (Federer on clay too Nadal apart) because they were so much better than anyone else, for any outsider the era couldn't possibly be any harder, during 5+ years you had to either beat the best grass/HC player ever or the best clay player ever in every single Slam just to get 1 Slam title.

The longer I think about it, the more certain I am this whole 'head coach' business is just a marketing stunt.

Becker's only task will be to improve Djokovic's atrocious overheads, together with his volleys.

unexpected. I was rooting for him to try and hire Edberg as assistant for the net game. We'll see what happens here.

Novak's gluten-free diet is in jeopardy. He'll be knocking back the steiners and sobering up on frankfurters with Boris before he knows it!

I hope so. He's not fit for a head coach. On the other hand, Novak is pretty self-sustainable now on the psychological plane. Vajda will be there for overall tactics. The current field of players is set for the next two years, so it's really just about improving, and Becker is the second best choice for that. Edberg would have been better.

1. I think the net game is one factor.
2. But certainly not the only one. Playing on the top of the sport also brings a lot of pressure. Top players like Becker of Lendl experienced that also in their careers. So they know how to deal with it.
3. I think Boris is also a motivator. It must give Nole some extra confidence that he is backed by such a great player like Becker. It must give him some extra confidence. I think Murray's cofidence also increased after he knew he was backed by the great Ivan Lendl. To be backed by a great player gives you some extra confidence. It gives you the feeling that you are not standing alone before a great final. And I think it gives you more confidence to be backed by the great Becker than by Vajda.
4. Tactically I dont think Becker is on par with Lendl. But he does have some tactical advise than can help Djokovic

The biggest problem with Becker is that he's very self-orientated, and loves to talk about just how wonderful he and his career was. I'm not sure that he's capable of actually putting another player first and thinking of what is actually important for him.

I think it could have worked as an advisor, or consultant or whatever, so that it's only supposed to be temporary or specific to certain aspects of his game. I'm wary of it going all Sharapova/Connors if he's supposed to be a permanent coach.

He'll have seen how much respect Lendl has been getting lately and will want in on the action, but one of the things that has made Lendl a great coach is that he knows when to shut up, and neither he, nor Murray are attention seekers, so there weren't problems with ego.

Team Djokovic has always seemed to be a close nit camp. Can't see Vajda being happy to play second fiddle to Becker.

You might be right. I see no other reason to hire Becker.

Wow what strange combination and Boris has never been a coach before. It will be very interesting to see how it will affect Novak next year, I hope only positive . And Vajda must be OK with it 100%, otherwise Boris wouldn't even be considered. Vajda is like a 2nd father to Novak (his words).
