I reckon if he wins this Challenger he should not go to Almaty, the only thing is that it's 2 wks in Almaty, which means he would be taking 2 wks off and since he is getting married on 7 July, I would only assume he would take that week off aswell. Maybe a bit too much time off.. ?

LET'S hear it for the girls. Today is Girlfriend's Day at the Next Generation Adelaide International tennis tournament.

And someone who is thankful for the support he has recieved from his girlfriend is Aussie Peter Luczak.

The Polish-born Victorian will be in action today. And watching from the stands - as always - will be devoted fiancee Katarina Queckfeldt.

"She's just been excellent," Peter says.

"It's not easy being a tennis wife. She's made a lot of sacrifices. Thankfully, she's happy to travel," he says.

The couple base themselves in Australia for three months of the year, while living the remainder in Sweden, where Katarina is from. Katarina, who doesn't play tennis, admits she is good at watching.

"I support quietly though. I think if I talk, I'm going to jinx him," Katarina says.

The two, who have been dating since May, 2005, met while Peter was playing a tournament in Munich, Germany.

"I was working in the players' office when we met. I looked after the accreditation and administration," Katarina explains.

While Peter's form on the court has been terrific of late (he beat world No 21 Dominik Hrbaty on day one of this tournament), so has been life off the court.

He and Katarina are the proud parents of seven-month-old Sebastian, and will be getting married in July

in Sweden.

So will Sebastian follow in dad's tennis footsteps?

"I think he'll play footy. Be the next James Hird. That would make dad very proud," says Peter, who is also a mad Bombers supporter.

Congrats Peter...by my calculations should now be 101...Mahut make Queen's final...if he wins the final though, he will be top 100

GOOD LUCK

He plays Vagnozzi in the final and should be able to win this challenger, but nevertheless he doesn't need to play in Almaty now. Zizz made it a good point he is getting married and after Wimbledon he will play Båstad qualies and hopefully Stuttgart and he is in directly at Kitzbuhel.

Peter has won back to back Challengers and given the local crowd what they wanted and with this he has now reached the promised land of the top 100.

It couldn't have happened to a better guy and he has nothing to defend for the rest of the year, take some time off and hope he can consolidate it at the end of the season and he should make the US Open directly.

He just won 63 63! C'mon Luchi!! 55 point -5 (only counting 18 best) so that should take him to around 98-99 depending on the movement in the list.

Thanks for getting the correct result zizz and 98-99, it should just be an upward curve for a while yet.

No worries, just wish I would have been there instead of getting updates via sms. But hey, that's life

Plays Satschko 1st rd in Almaty, lets hope he can have a good week here too so that he can take a wk off or something. Don't want him playing tou much tennis. He has won 15 matches in a row!

Can't have it all in life, can we? The information was valuable and I can understand why he doesn't want to take a break, but he will need to do it at some point, cause of the marriage and the fun summer clay events.

I don't doubt that Peter will be at Sopot

Luczak joins Hewitt and Guccione in top 100

AdvertisementFOR the first time since 2004, Australia has three players in the top 100 of world tennis after Melbourne's Peter Luczak continued his amazing run of form by winning his fourth tournament in three months.

Playing on the ATP Challenger tour, Luczak won his second title in as many weeks, downing Italian Simone Vagnozzi 6-3,6-3 to win the $50,000 championship in the southern Polish city of Bytom.

The win lifted Australia's claycourt specialist to a world ranking of 98, joining Chris Guccione (95) and Lleyton Hewitt (19) in the top 100. Australia has not had three players in the top 100 since Mark Philippoussis dropped out in 2004.

Three months ago, Luczak's ranking had dropped to 246 after a protracted bout of pneumonia and, at 27 and with a baby, his future on the tour looked shaky. But since then, he has won four of his past seven tournaments on the Challenger tour, and making a final and semi-final in the others, giving him a record of 27 wins and three losses.

Born in Warsaw, raised in Melbourne and now based in Sweden, Luczak has got there with an itinerary that has taken him so far this year to Australia, South Africa, Germany, Ecuador, Morocco, Italy, the Czech Republic, the Canary Islands, France and Poland. Given that, it's not surprising that rather than playing Wimbledon, this week he will be in Kazakhstan, for another $50,000 event, again on clay. But he has a break coming. Next month, he will marry Katarina Queckfeldt in Sweden, before choosing between continuing on European clay or heading to the US Open.
