Re: Articles & Interviews
Gasquet ends Marray's challenge
Home interest in the Nottingham Open ended on Wednesday when Jonathan Marray, the last remaining Briton, was despatched 6-4 6-1 by Richard Gasquet.
Marray broke the Frenchman in the first game but was overpowered by Gasquet's groundstrokes as the match progressed.
The fourth seed broke back twice in the first set then exploited Marray's faltering serve to dominate the second.
Clay court specialist Gasquet took 62 minutes to make the last eight and said "I'm getting more confident on grass."
Meanwhile, Marray knows he has to improve if he is to get beyond next week's opening round at Wimbledon for the first time.
I didn't serve well against Gasquet and I have got to serve better than that if I am going to stand a chance (at Wimbledon)
The British number nine blew three match points against Karol Beck of Slovakia before losing 10-8 in the final set in SW19 last year.
But on the basis of this performance he admitted he has got to sharpen up his serve.
"I didn't serve well against Gasquet and I have got to serve better than that if I am going to stand a chance (at Wimbledon)," he said.
"I've had a dodgy six months and another dodgy day here. But I am hoping to get a decent draw at Wimbledon and then hopefully at least one win."
However, Marray believes Gasquet could do well at the All England Championships if he maintains his recent form.
Richard is one of the top players in the world at the moment," Gasquet said.
"His game may not be ideally suited to grass, but I think he could do well at Wimbledon if he keeps playing like this."

Doesn't Richard seem a big arrogant talking about himself in the 3rd person like that and saying he is one of the best in the world?? That's a hilarious typo that BBC had. Someone who hates Richard would read that as use it against him.
Funny article

Re: Articles & Interviews
Here is a Richard Wimbledon Bio from BBC. They have one for each seed.

Born: 18/6/86
Nationality: French
Seeded: 27
World ranking: 27
Wimbledon best:
1st round (2004)
Recent record:
2004: 1st round
2003: N/A
2002: N/A
27. Richard Gasquet
The 19-year-old Frenchman has enjoyed a sensational couple of months, overshadowed only by his contemporary Rafael Nadal.
Like the Spaniard, Gasquet had long been touted as a potential Grand Slam champion before finally starting to realise that promise in 2005.
The breakthrough was a dramatic win over Roger Federer in Monte Carlo that catapulted Gasquet into the limelight.
He went on to lose to Nadal in the final, to Andre Agassi in Rome and to Federer in the final of the Hamburg Masters.
That hugely impressive run on clay came to an end against Nadal, yet again, at the French Open.
Whether Gasquet is quite ready to transfer his game to grass is doubtful.
His big shot is a truly exceptional backhand that already bears comparison with any in the game on clay, but the heavy topspin used may not suit SW19.
However, none of the big names would relish a potential third-round clash with the teenager from Beziers.

These are the important bits of the article... Richard should play against more Brits so that we'll have more articles, reports and wow! three quotes! ... (not more so far but that's getting better...) and a few compliments / nice overstatements about Richard like this one... (But Marray wasn't going to say that he was beaten by a bad player, was he?... )

Re: Articles & Interviews
Wow, I just skimmed the seeding one. I didn't realize that mistake either. You think they would check their facts before posting? Of course not
I agree, Richard needs to play (and beat) more Brits so we can have more news. And very good point that Marray wouldn't want to say he lost to a bad player. I would love to see a player come out and say that "I lost today to a really bad player. His ranking is like 70th in the world and his forehand is horrible. Have you seen it?"

Since when he is a clay court specialist
Nadal, Coria, Gaudio,.... are but Richard is not imo. He can play in every surfaces. He said it enough in interviews.
So, I hope he will show them he can do well in every surfaces

And above all he prooved it by playing a final on hardcourt in Metz, a quarter final at the Queen's, winning many Challengers on hardcourt and clay, plus all the good results he had on clay that everybody know about...
Saying grass is not is best surface is ok since it may be true but saying he's a claycourt specialist is clearly false: i don't know how he'd manage in front of one of the claycourt specialists on clay. It'd be very hard because he's not at their level but maybe clay is his best/favorite surface...

Re: Articles & Interviews
Gasquet: "He's a good player on grass so it was tough at the beginning but I got better as the match went on. I feel like my game is getting better on grass and I think I can play very well on this surface and I'm looking forward to Wimbledon."
On being seeded for Wimbledon: "It's great to be seeded for Wimbledon. It means that I will avoid playing someone like Federer in the early rounds."
More and more quotes everyday!

Re: Articles & Interviews
More quotes
http://www.sportinglife.com/tennis/n...am_Marray.html
Gasquet - one of only three men to beat world number one Roger Federer this year - said: "I am now getting more confidence on grass and I know now that I can play serve and volley.
"I have to play more matches to be as good as I can be on the surface but I have reached two quarter-finals now so it is a very good time for me."
