What do you make of this? Does Fed think the WTF is bigger than the slams even? Is this a dig at Nadal? What is this?

Discuss.

Nothing to discuss. This tournament is the onyl one that Federer is able to win, so he's saying bla bla bla. Turn your shit against Robredo, ya.

It is the "best of the best" in the sense that you only play Top 8 players (which means that you can't play yourself into form against weaker opponents; you have to play at a high level from the beginning). However, it's not BO5 or as prestigious (historically) as any of the Slams, so I think it's rightfully placed as a cut above the Masters (1000) but not at the same level as a Slam (2000).

PS. He's not taking a dig at Nadal. He's just saying he wants to be part of that elite group of players that compete there...

He's saying it's the tournament for the "best of the best", the one with the highest quality density. He might also be saying it's his favourite, which wouldn't be a huge surprise.

Awesome title to ignite the tardwars.

The players are the best of the best, not the tournament

Top 8 players, etc.

Doubt it's a dig at Nadull, although it would be funny because Dull can't win it.

So in an interview on the ATP website he says that the major ATP event of the year is the "best of the best"? How surprising from Roger...

I am one of those who thinks the WTF should be the equivalent of a world cup in football or other sports. Where different nations bid for it and host it. It should be a 2000 point event and should have a week free either side of it, not straight after another masters event.

I think the fact you play against only the best players should mean you earn just as much if not more than a slam.

I think the conversion from 3 sets to 5 sets might overdo it at the end of the season, but if they fix up their schedule, ie. push Paris Masters earlier in the year, they would have plenty of time and willingless to switch from 3 sets to 5 sets.

The hilarious part of that article is him claiming he will be back in full force next year

It also tells us, in a short period of time against sustained quality opponents, Fed was able to cut it. Nadal has never been able to cut it agaisnt so many top players in such a shrot period of time.

I don't even think the retards to try and demean the tournament believe their own nonsense.

Indoors, yes.

Had this tournament been on outdoor hardcourt, grass or clay and Nadal definitely would be able to have won it, several times even. Nadal has the 2nd best record vs. top 10 players of all time, only short of Borg's record. Federer is 4th.

What?

Rafa's lack of success at the WTF is due to it being played on his worst surface. He's more than capable of beating sustained quality opponents in a short period of time on any other surface bar Indoor HC.

This was only 2012 and 2013, next year there will be a free week again.

The tournament should start on Friday instead of Sunday and have Bo5 for SFs and Finals. Having all matches as Bo5 between top players would end up as too tiring for those who happen to engage in a lot of epics.
