Inter Parfums signs tennis ace Nadal
01-Oct-08
Tennis world number one Rafael Nadal has signed a deal with Inter Parfums to be global ambassador for its Lanvin line of fragrances. The star will help develop a new Lanvin fragrance which is set for a summer 2009 launch.
The positioning of the new fragrance line, which is to be called Lanvin L'Homme Sport, will be built around Nadal's image. A range of products will be aimed at a younger market than is usual for the Lanvin brand. Inter Parfums is planning to launch the brand throughout Europe and the US.
Nadal, a Wimbledon champion and Olympic gold medallist, will be at the centre of a major marketing push for the launch. The Spaniard joins a number of other tennis stars, including Andre Agassi, Venus and Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova, as a fragrance spokesperson.
Paris-based Inter Parfums creates and manufactures several brands of fragrances and cosmetics under license, including Burberry, Paul Smith, Christian Lacroix and Van Cleef & Arpels.

He is just full of surprises isn't he? In one of his blogs he mentioned he was wearing Lanvin and even then I thought, "what...?", it does not exactly go with his other sponsorships but since they will create a new scent around him, why not, no? Can't wait to smell him

From what I recall it was only available in Europe. I remember there was video about the making of the commercial. With the exception of Rafa mentioning it in a Q&A there never seem to be much if any advertising. I think it was called Sportsman Pro and Rafa was to promote it versus it being his signature product.
The commerical is still on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rcoeJAN5eY

Someone needs to say Rafa you have enough money you don't need to advertise everything.

I thought so too.
He looked uncomfortable in that ad. I'm thrilled his Q rating went up a million points in the past few months but why does everybody have to jump into the perfume business? Perfume just isn't "him". Stick with the watch/deodorant/Nike ads.
*edit*
Adding scan from this week's People magazine. And some screencaps I took during the week of USO. Rafa was quite popular on Yahoo and YouTube then.

I think he mentioned in one of his many blogs that he used Lanvin. I suppose he thinks it will be better to be the face of something he actually uses.
Babolat, Nike, Kia, TimeForce are the only brands that I associate strongly with Rafa.
I saw at vb that Rafa on the beach pics made People magazine this week. Sadly not the bare ass ones
