Default Best players coming back from a 0-2 set deficit / losing after a 2-0 set lead

Who really deserves the figther "tag" winning after being down 0-2 sets?
Who are the biggest "chockers" blowing the match after leading 2-0 sets?

Data includes best-of-five matches played in Grand Slams, Davis Cup, Masters Cup, Olympic Games, Masters Series and other ATP tournaments (e.g. Vienna, Stuttgart) since 1983 up to Australian Open 2005

-------------------------------------------------------------

Coming back from a 0-2 set deficit:
(minimum: 4 matches)

Code:
Boris Becker 10
Aaron Krickstein	10
Todd Martin 9
Michael Chang 6
Kevin Curren	.	6
Wayne Ferreira 6
Nicolas Lapentti	6
Andre Agassi 5
Byron Black 5
Nicolas Escude 5
Amos Mansdorf 5
Yannick Noah 5
Patrick Rafter 5
Pete Sampras 5
Dominik Hrbaty 5
Fernando Gonzalez	5
Nicolas Kiefer 5
Carlos Moya 5
Andrei Chesnokov	4
Brad Gilbert 4
Goran Ivanisevic	4
Gustavo Kuerten 4
Wally Masur 4
Patrick McEnroe 4
Miloslav Mecir 4
Jiri Novak 4
Jared Palmer 4
Cedric Pioline 4
Marc Rosset 4
Sargis Sargsian 4
Slobodan Zivojinovic	4
(matches won by retirement after a 0-2 set deficit do only count if the retirement occured in the 5th set)

example:
Aaron Krickstein.......10 (39)
means: Krickstein was down 0-2 sets in 39 best-of-five matches. And he could still win 10 of them.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Blowing a 2-0 set lead:
(minimum: 4 matches)

Code:

Jurgen Melzer 8
Cassio Motta 6
Cedrik Pioline 6
Tommy Haas 6
Paul Henri Mathieu	6
Kenneth Carlsen 5
Jim Courier 5
Carlos Moya 5
Jonas Svensson 5
Radek Stepanek 5
Ivan Ljubicic 5
James Blake 5
Sergie Bruguera 4
Guillermo Canas 4
Andrei Cherkasov	4
Stefan Edberg 4
Johny Goudenbour	4
Martin Jaite 4
Ivan Lendl 4
Amos Mansdorf 4
Max Mirnyi 4
Fabrice Santoro 4
Jan Siemerink 4
Sebastien Grosjean	4
Stefan Koubek 4
Phillip Petzschner	4
Roger Federer 4
Juan Carlos Ferrero	4
Max Mirnyi 4
Richard Gasquet 4
Oliver Rochus 4

example:
Stefan Edberg..........4 (173)
means: Edberg was leading 2-0 sets in 173 best-of-five matches. And he lost only 4 of them after holding such a lead.

BTW, I've done this for a database computer course at university last week together with 3 other people in a group. So I wouldn't claim this is from an official source and thus could be considered as 100% accurate. But at the same time I have some high trust that it won't be too far away from the truth either.

I think Krickstein only done the job 8 times in this regard.

It might have happened early in his career, though he did blow one against Hewitt at 2001 Roland Garros.

That may be also right, if you use different parameters and don't count the retirements in the fifth sets his opponents had as win. Krickstein's listing is:

Australian Open 1995, R128, Krickstein def. (6) Edberg 6-7(6) 5-7 6-4 7-6(5) 6-4
Roland Garros 1992, R64, (13) Krickstein def. Malivei Washington 4-6 5-7 6-4 7-6(7) 6-3
Wimbledon 1995, R128, Krickstein def. (Q) Bergstrom 4-6 0-6 7-6(4) 6-2 6-2
US Open 1983, R32, Krickstein def. (15) Gerulaitis 3-6 3-6 6-4 6-2 6-4
US Open 1984, R128, (8) Krickstein def. Manson 3-6 2-6 7-6 6-2 4-0 ret.
US Open 1986, R128, Krickstein def. Novacek 5-7 4-6 7-6 6-1 6-3
US Open 1986, R64, Krickstein def. Annacone 4-6 4-6 6-3 6-4 7-6
US Open 1989, R32, (14) Krickstein def. Volkov 3-6 3-6 6-4 6-2 6-3
Key Biscayne 1988, Krickstein def. (9) Agassi 4-6 4-6 6-3 7-5 1-0 ret.
Key Biscayne 1989, (10) Krickstein def. Mattar 4-6 3-6 7-6 6-0 7-6

Canas made a 0-2 comeback once, and this only time was against Henman at the Australian Open 2004, R32, beating Henman 6-7(5) 5-7 7-6(3) 7-5 9-7.

His losses after a 2-0 set lead are listed as the following:

Roland Garros 2001, R16, (6) Hewitt def. Canas 3-6 6-7(3) 6-2 6-3 6-3
(one of Hewitt's two 0-2 deficit comebacks, the other one was against Federer in the Davis Cup 2003)
Wimbledon 1998, R64, Clavet def. Canas 6-7(2) 2-6 7-6(4) 6-1 6-4
Wimbledon 2002, R64, F. Lopez def. (10) Canas 4-6 2-6 7-6(7) 7-5 10-8
Davis Cup 1999, ARG vs VEN, Ruah def. Canas 3-6 3-6 7-6(3) 6-3 6-3

I am happy that Krickstein shares the record.

I was never expected Martin and Escude so high! Escude has win 5 matches of the 22 back 0:2 sets? That's strong and he is still active and almost every times injury.

Canas blowing the lead and not coming back from of it? A wrong "fighter" here.
Hewitt also overrated from 0:2 comebacks, only two. Unbelivalbe.

The right way to count who is a fighter is to see how many times he has been 2-0 down and not only how many times he has comeback. LIke if someone has been 20 times down 2-0 down and come back 5 (25%) times it is more impressive than someone who has been 50 times 2-0 down aqnd come back 10 times.

Jogy, I think stats are not everything when talking about somebody's ambition or fighting spirit and normally I think Canas still puts considerably lots of effort into his matches even though the numbers at these specific situations (coming back from 0-2 and blowing after 2-0) don't seem to favour him here.

But actually the funny thing for me here is that the "poor and pathetic backhand" Feliciano "I'm such a pretty girl, let me admire myself in a mirror" Lopez runs a 6-2 five set record since 2002, and two of these six wins within the last 3 years have been grinding 5 setters that went the distance and that have come against "the big fighter" Guillermo "I never give up" Canas.
