Because it's a direct choice between that and this?

Why not have a court surface like Shanghai or Canada here? Medium paced and fair for all.

But when you have a molasses court like that COUPLED with the crippling heat of the early afternoon (why was the final on so early? because of some mickey mouse other sport it would have clashed with later on!!)

Total shame on the ATP and those who make decisions like this.

But the players abilities and tactics have significantly improved by now.
Makes sense. They measured the friction levels when they changed surfaces, Rebound Ace was 35, Plexi was the same or a few points higher (putting both in a medium category, which is 35-39). I think this was using the old surface speed measurement system, so not comparable to the current which is a little more complex.

There may be year to year variations of course, eg Federer was told they'd sped it up for this year, and about a dozen other players said it was quite a bit quicker.

Aus Open balls have got quite a crap ton slower though, as have pretty much all hard court balls. That's not a sudden thing though, it's been happening for 8 or 9 years.

Defos need more fast court events, balance is uneven as present

I'm not asking for serve fests. Medium speed courts would be much better than this shit.

It isn't even this though.

ATP needs CLEAR variation between courts. Placing all courts at medium speed would be just as stupid to watch. Variation is always great, which is particularly why the 90s wasn't as a servefest as people claim it to be.. Yes, many of the hardcourt events and pretty much all grass were heavily dictated by serve, but clay gave the opposite end of the spectrum and at the same time there was a very reasonable amount of slower hardcourt events (Miami and the Australian Open for example were never that quick).

Mandy's best results come on slow-medium HC his serve sucks and he has no FH to be a good fast court player

Indeed, variation is what we need. Right now there's not enough of it.

This might sound like a stupid question, but since I'm not some expert, would these slow hard courts like IW and Miami be much better in colder conditions?

Murray only really benefits from slow/high courts against Federer, and a select few others (notably Cilic and Tsonga). Against Djokovic/Nadal/Ferrer/DelPotro/Berdy and quite a few others, he's better off with a lower bounce and more pace through the court. For a demonstration of this, go watch his Dubai matches last year, the win over Djokovic then the loss to Federer.

Are you dumb? Oh yeah, that's right you are a bit odd in the head.

Cincinnati has been won by Rafa and Novak a whopping combined ZERO times. Murray alone has won 2 titles there. On top of that, USO has generally been regarded as the quickest slam in the past 10 years or so, and he has proven his successes there as well, regardless of whatever piss poor weather condition excuses you have. It was still the first GS he was able to make a final.

On hot days the ball flies and jumps through a bit quicker, so I'm guessing since you want them quicker, no colder conditions would only slow things down a little. I've been to IW a few times and there is a noticeable difference on hotter days compared to some of the sessions later in the day when it is cooler.

Miami turned to green clay, and soon all the tournies of the year will be clay too, just to allow Nadal to get 0 defeat and CYGS for next few years. Quality tennis, empty seats, crappy audience ratings, el mejor del tenis no? no?

This match will get good ratings due to March Madness.
All comments on the Daily Mail website say it was superb entertainment.

If casual fans like it and it gets good ratings, expect to see more of this in the future.

4 titles from Cananda/Cincinnatti >> 2 titles from IW/Miami
1 title + 1 final at USO >> 3 finals at AO
Also his first titles and finals in his early years were from faster courts, like San Jose indoors, Washington, Metz indoors, St. Petersburg indoors.
