Same with matches won/lost when match point up/down, where Djokovic and Nadal have solid stats, Federer has even lost more matches than won in that department:

True.

Nadal is an even better clutch player IMO, but specifically on match points, Djokovic is the king.

yep those stats confirms that line of thought.. His clutchness is vastly overrated; he was losing/choking 5 setters left and right even before 2010 (Safin and Nalbandian in 2005, Rafa in Rome 06' comes to mind). He was a very good frontrunner, but not as comfortable when he needs to buckle-down if things tightens up and his oponent stands his ground. Can you imagine Nadal getting out-toughened and losing a 2-6 in a fifth set Slam final against a 20 year-old first-timer (not taking anything away from Delpo, but Fed shockingly checked out)?? i know it will happen someday, but at least he will go down fighting and put the frigheners on the guy..

Djokovic at his peak would beat Federer at his peak ON CLAY.

Wow... Djokovic 2.0 couldn't beat Olderer RG 2011 and yet you think he would beat Primerer?

That's why it is an unpopular opinion

I think Federer played one of his very best matches that day and one of his best ever French Opens, consistently better than when he won in 2009 for example.

I also think that whilst Djokovic had a fantastic clay-court season, he has had several better individual matches.

Djokovic hadn't played for five days and seemed to be caught a little cold early in that match, I think he has played better matches in subsequent French Opens than on that day but that's just my opinion.

Out of interest, would you be more open to me saying peak Djokovic is better than peak Federer on clay but wouldn't necessarily beat him? I'm not sure if I think that's true but you could make an argument for it based on his record against Nadal. (I'm not forgetting Federer's achievements on clay but I don't want the post to be too long).
