From Belgian press: Malisse started really well and took the first set easily. In the second set Ferrer played better. Nobody lost his serve, and so it was 5-5. But then Malisse was defaulted after 2 warnings.
What happened exactly at 5-5 in the second set with Xavier Malisse? Apparently he didn't agree on a decision of a line judge. Malisse entered into a discussion with the line judge, but went on to play afterwards. Out of miscontentment, he made couple of foot faults afterwards. This lead to a first warning.
This made Malisse so angry that he started insulting a line judge. What he said exactly wasn't know, but apparently it was bad enough to lead to a second warning. After two warnings, the player is defaulted.

Just saw the footage...wasnt that bad actually. Some shouting, kicking a chair and some racket abuse. Something we saw from McEnre in every match.
The lineswoman said he called her a fucking whore. But everybody in the audience disagreed. Only the umpire believed the poor 'little' girl. Well, only Xavier knows what he actually said...
If I would've been rejected for something I didnt say... I would also raise some hell. Nothing worse then being wrongfully accused.
But, all in all. Xavier has to keep his head with the game. He led slip an easy victory there.

That's not true anymore, the rules have changed, there's no automatic default. However if the court violation is too severe the umpire can decide to default a player, which is probably what happened. |

it's getting ridiculous how many line judges and umps are getting things wrong at the moment so many times they're messing things up and now this!
i feel sorry for xavi esp as it seems everyone in the crowd is backing him saying he never said such a thing! cruel cruel cruel, stupid lines judge better never do a match for any of my boys or i'll call it much worse than a whore.
poor xavi  compare dto the things mcenroe used to do  mind you i did love john he was awesome and i loved him doing all that but still disqualified for the lines judge being a jerk

Poor Xavier if he really didnt say it
But I'm disappointed in him if he did.
I thought it was more than two warnings before a default though? 2nd warning is point penalty, then game penalty, then default. Its a bit harsh if he gets defaulted the 2nd time. |
