Now it 0-2, 0-30 in the 2nd set
Not feeling very positive at the moment.

It looks like it was just a bad match
4-6 2-6
Well, he switched weeks of when he played a good MS so he shouldn't lose too many ranking spots. The points will balance out.

exactly, concerning the Masters results they will balance out! However, he has lost the points because of not getting equal results for defending his Scottsdale and Memphis points earlier in the season

Re: MIAMI Masters Series
Ouch...so he actually could have used the extra points. He's moving on to clay which has not always been good to him.
Personally, I'm loving it because clay is my favorite surface . Hopefully Kiwi will improve this year.

Exactly, not that Mayer is a bad player, he is not, he is quite the very opposite when his game is on and if that result happened last season during May to August, I wouldn't have been that much surprised.
The surprising thing here is not so much that Mayer won, but that he came out of NOWHERE based on his current results when he could do nothing at all for a long time. He was really horrible the weeks before (also due to some injury problems he brought into the new season) and hardly could get any win!
whatever, bad day for Kiefer, superb play by Mayer...

I hope so, I guess he will never be a real force on clay, he never was in his whole career so far, but he really doesn't have to lose anything on clay. He got only a few wins in 2004.
But still, IMO he has underachieved last season on clay. He faced very difficult opponents (Youzhny, Coria, Volandri, Federer) and I think he is a much better play on clay than his record is representing. He just doesn't have to face a total claycourt specialist every time and I think a 4th round in a clay Masters would be well within his reach.

Re: MIAMI Masters Series
Well, Kiwi did it last year when he made the Finals of Memphis & Scottsdale. Some people were wondering where his form came from

That's the problem. He really has a tournament schedule like a top ten player and doesn't see that he has to play more tournaments.

Re: MIAMI Masters Series
I don't think he can handle more tournaments on a mental level. He'll burn out. Besides, I'm sure he expected to do better in Miami and then he would've only had one week off and not two.

Re: MIAMI Masters Series
If he loses on the Monday in Monte Carlo, he will have another 3 weeks off. I already see that coming.

Re: MIAMI Masters Series
Bad loss for Kiwi. I wonder if Mayer just outplayed him or if Nicolas was not having a good day. I'm glad I didn't go to Miami this year like I usually do to see this. I would have been disappointed. I hope he plays well in Cincy so I can see him play well there
Well if he gets any points during the clay season it will be a bonus since last year he didn't do so well. I was hoping for a good Miami result so he might possibly be seeded in these master clay events but I doubt that will happen now

Re: MIAMI Masters Series
Losing to Mayer...
Neely, wieso verliert Kiefer denn gegen den Geier? Nicht Jutta Adler....
