Default Best surface streak

How would you rank the following surface streaks in terms of greatness:

1. Nadal's 81 match clay streak
2. Federer's 56 match hard-court streak
3. Federer's 65 match grass court streak

Does everyone else also think that out of these the HC streak is the most impressive considering that it is the most neural surface and so many players grow up playing on it?

The grass streak is most impressive since it's such a short patch of the year, it's harder to master it and completely own the competition. It also means you need more years to do a big streak than you do in the other surfaces, which also makes it harder to accomplish.

Agree. Hard and clay streaks are still really impressive but you have more of an opportunity to do it. You only have at max, four grass tournaments to accomplish this.

Impossible to say. Achieving a grass streak can certaainly be difficult merely because grass lacks tournaments, at least compared to clay and hard. Rafa's streak is unbelievable but at the end of the day it only spans from 2005 to 2007 whereas Federer's grass streak lasts from 2003 to 2008. Either way, like I said, it is pretty hard to really give one streak the edge over the other, so it is just a subjective question. Do you prefer a run that spans over 6 years, or a run with 16 more wins but only covers half that length.

Someone should include other stats between the two streaks such as average sets lost, games lost, etc. Would make the debate more interesting.

A short season means that you don't have to maintain form for long. A longer season requires consistency.

So winning the U.S. Open 4 times in a row is a greater achievement than the Calendar Year Grand Slam?

Just playing devil's advocate

HC streak for me, there are less grass and clay specialists than... well the whole field can be dangerous on hard.

But a grass streak requires consistency for many years, not just one or two in-form seasons.

For me the most dominant play is Rafa's Clay, Fed's Grass is good but not even close.

The one who lose to rafa 9 times in grand slam is the goat
Wilander: Federer played during the weakest era ever.
John McEnroe: Rafael Nadal is the best ever, even with a first-round Wimbledon loss
Agassi: Rafael Nadal as the best player in the history of tennis, ahead of Roger Federer.
Pete Sampras: Rafael Nadal Can Pass Federer and become the GOAT

Over many years, yes. But I was specifically referring to the "patch" that was being talked about (for instance Federer's 2006 vs. Nadal's 2006)

Well sure, in that case. I think each are impressive in their own way, frankly.

Think that is a pretty unfair thing to say. While saying Rafa's streak is the better streak is not the issue here, saying Federer's grass streak is not even close is a bit harsh. The two streaks are only separated by a mere 16 matches (would have been 1 more match closer but Haas had withdrawn in 2007 giving Federer a walkover instead of a win) and that streak includes 5 Wimbledon title runs including one final whereas Rafa's streak only includes 2 RG runs during it and the rest mainly come from Monte Carlo/Rome/Barcelona, so I think it has to be argued that the two streaks are pretty close to each other.
