the point I'm making is Gulbis in THEORY winning this TMS would still not put him close to a top 10 Monaco cracked with a couple of MMs, an RG 4th round and a Miami SF, which epitomises how much of a joke the rankings are. Same with Troicki when he reached #12.

Come on, mate. Gulbis is losing to clowns left and right, even in 2013. Monaco was very very consistent when he made the top 10, several titles, and that 4th round as you said.

Gulbis should play some 250's like everyone else, especially since he is always losing 1st week in slams.

The ranking system has long been exposed to be corrupt, I'm afraid you're very late to the party here. Gulbis is the real #8.

Regarding this match, I couldn't watch it but nice win for Ernest .

Did someone just call Lopez a pusher? Now I've heard it all

He's still in the top 30, so he's not retiring any time soon.

Still, this is a bad loss. Gulbis is an utter joke and losing to him is not good at all.

Good victory for Gulbis but it wasn't a brilliant match, I expect Gulbis to win a maximum of one more match if he doesn't improve. Still better version than in the last matches post-Wimbledon.

When Gulbis is clean-shaven he isn't a mug.

Lopez definitely does tend to push from the back of the court, more so these days than in the past, that is without a doubt. Overall, is he a pusher, no.

And rocketassist, you're kind of right, more reward should probably be placed on M1000, but Gulbis has been losing early left and right even with his new "effort". I think he'd have been far more successful if he approached tennis more like this with the game he brought when he was younger. He definitely doesn't have the same kind of pop from the back of the court. I think much of that has to do with that horrific forehand.
