An appetizer for those who are waiting for psicho's translation:

Argentine tennis star denies reports of poor reputation
Argentine tennis star Guillermo Coria, number eight in the Association of Tennis Players(ATP) world ranking, denied reports that he was held in low esteem by his ATP colleagues, in an interview with Argentina's La Nacion newspaper on Friday.

"Either those rumours are lies or I am very stupid. The people who come and speak to me and say "bad luck, good luck or well played", would be acting," he said. "I don't feel discriminated against."

He added that he gave little importance to criticisms, like those of Chile's Fernando Gonazlez, who said that in October last year that he was the least liked on the circuit, after beating Coria in the Madrid Masters competition.

"People speak about reputation, but other players do several things in a row and because they have another kind of image, nothing happens," he complained.

"If I go out to "kill" a player like Fernando Gonzales did with me, people speak worse of me than they do him," he said.

Coria said he did not understand why the Chilean said what he did: "If he has a problem with me he doesn't need to go to the press. All the more so if, when he sees me in the changing room, he doesn't say anything."

The Argentine has rowed publicly with Australia's Leyton Hewitt, Chile's Nicolas Massu, and compatriot Gaston Gaudio. Coria, who turns 24 next week, has won nine professional titles in his career so far.

Haha~ I knew there was something suspicious about Truc's *horrible* language abilities!
Most people that i know either speak several languages and are pretty good at picking up new ones or are like my dad, who can't learn properly one language of the country he's living in for 10 years now.
I wish i spoke more "useful" languages too.

Thanks for the appetizer! Can't wait for the main dish...

Hi Truc, that is a cool job. No wonder you worry you aren't saying things just right, your standards must be very high. I understand tens of thousands of words need to be learned to communicate at a higher level in another language. I never manage to learn more than a thousand or so and never get far in other languages, so I especially admire your skills! And you know many languages too. Even if you don't use complicated vocabulary, you construct your sentences extremely well and come off as a native English speaker IMHO.

Psycho - thanks so much for the thread and translating. No pressure, I/we appreciate whatever you can do - THANKS! I'm kind of confused/curious about the rumours re: Perlas and Mariano Hood and wonder if I have the gist of what he said from the poor translations?

And that is an extremely long article. I'm surprised it's in a newspaper - it's more like a story I'd expect to see in a sports magazine (in US media anyway) It shows how much Guille means to Argentina that they would dedicate that much time and space to him.

Oh, thanks for all the nice words, but I feel embarrassed, it wasn't supposed to be the main discussion topic in Guille's news thread! It was a good idea from Adam to bump the chat thread, I can't stay on topic when posting in the other threads.
Well, you've got a nice incentive to learn Spanish or improve your Spanish now, Julie! Boards like this one are a perfect place to practice, it's so much easier now to learn a new language.

(You're bilingual, aren't you, napki? Russian/English sounds pretty "useful" to me.)

Good point about straying from the thread, sorry! To make up I actually found some real news:

"Englishman Tim Henman and Argentine Guillermo Coria were also in town yesterday, having a practice hit at Melbourne Park."

Thanks Truc! Can I call you Fran??

"Argentine tennis star denies reports of poor reputation."
I dunno why, but I found that funny. I mean, you "report" important things like DUI's and war, weather. Stuff like that!!! Not like "Todays NEWS REPORT is that Guillermo Coria has a bad reputation." I mean that just sounds kinda odd Is he THAT popular???

Thanks again Fran You shouldn't be embarrased. You're very good at this stuff!!

Nice Australian posting scores from match, unfortunately Guille is down 2-5 right now, started well though, so hope he can reverse this trend!

Vamos!!!!

I adore Guillermo Coria. Just thought I'd come visit his message board.
