Awesome
And he's 7th again! I was reading the article and was like what the heck is wrong with those guys, cos he was 9th a week ago. But Hewit lost his AO points and i guess Agassi lost something too so Guille's 2 places up in the rankings.

Thanks for the article and the translations!

Mancini comments in "La Nacion" why Guille wasn't part of the team:

(Roughly: It was a difficult decision, it's always tough for a captain to exclude a player from the team. This time, it wasn't the right moment because of the circonstances and the serve issue. But he always kept him in mind and he'll keep him in mind for the next ties on any surface.
And for the rest, as usual: Guille should remain calm and patient, at a certain point there will be a "trigger" in his mind and he will win matches again and feel more comfortable, etc.
Mancini always stays in touch with all the players, good communication with them.)

As usual, feel free to correct or complete, it's more a guess than anything, I don't speak Spanish!

Sorry for writing in German, it's a "personal announcement" for Fabian (and the other German speakers, of course):

Yes it is nice that a player can move up in the rankings even when they aren't playing But of course they can also move down in the rankings

many articles do mention martina, and yes, navratilova made a gigantic breakthrough after years of waffling, but it was not with sports psychologists but a very motivated girlfriend, nancy lieberman, that turned things around for MN. martina just had to stop eating all the french fries and start thinking like a champion and making it her top priority. guille started out in the place where martina had to reach for, so theres no real correlation. except one: that he DOES need to connect to himself better...and while thats the job of a sports psychologist, just meeting the right friend would also do.

what guille needs is a meeting with a MAN OF DESTINY! (of course, i still hold that meeting is a reuniting with mancini, but we'll see...)

GUILLE! YOU'RE MY ROCKY BALBOA!!

Rocky!
there was an argentine player nicknamed this way: Guillermo (yes, another one) Perez Roldán, for the younger posters, he hit the ball like a horse's kick, but, of course, he didn't like that nickname...Franco Davin once told they were in a car with a flat tire, they didn't have the device to lift the car, so Perez Roldán lifted the car with his own hands and Davín changed the tire...okay, it was an old and venerable Citroën Mehari, but I challenge anyone to do that

Pretty bad, yes, it means "The magic is gone"!
But there is nothing new for you in the article, the quotes, the examples are all from the article in "La Nacion", it's just a nice summary in German.

The German journalist is explicitly referring to the article in "La Nacion", daze, that's why she mentions the same names, it's not a coincidence.
I know it was not your point, and I don't question at all the importance of Nancy Lieberman for Navratilova, but I thought Navratilova also worked quite a lot with sport psychologists, didn't she? At least that's what journalists were saying about her during the 2nd part of her career.
Anyway, tennis is mentally so tough, I guess a lot of tennis players work with sport psychologists at some point of their career, even if they don't talk about it (Spadea was also helped by a sport psychologist to recover from his horrible losing streak!), but it's not the panacea for everybody either. Mauresmo, for example, has tried about everything to overcome her mental problems and she says in interviews that the work with a sport psychologist has not helped her that much (unlike what some people wrote in the thread about Roddick in GM).

Por Martha Guerra [from ESPNdeportes.com and reposted at tourney site
http://abiertomextenis.com.mx/noticias_2006-04.html ]

There is a short article about Guille in Clarin, it only says that he isn't playing in Indian Wells, nothing about Miami yet:
http://www.clarin.com/diario/2006/03...es/d-02803.htm

I'm a bit annoyed by all the talk about Guille's break from tennis. It's cute when people write in GM "What a wise and mature decision!", "Come back strong and fresh as a daisy", but nobody said anything about a break publicly, I'm not so sure he's taking a real break!

And Vilas gives his opinion about Guille in Olé, it doesn't look very interesting, but it's for you, daze, since you said last time you are a huge Vilas fan!

I don't understand everything, what does he mean with "volver a boxes"?
