I just hope you are right and it was Guille who asked Mancini to be out of the team. Otherwise, he will feel that he is been dumped out of the team when he needed more the support of the Argentine public.
whatever anyone's opinion, guille is still ranked above gaudio and any other non-nalbandian argie , so just the fact that gaston has been placed above him for singles would suggest a deliberate choice.

and i dont think there is a 'no pressure' situation for him right now...being on court and knowing you may embarrass yourself by not putting your serve into the court is a lot for a pro--especially one with a (healthy) gigantic ego--to deal with. IMHO, he is only going to want to play infront of his people if he is going to make them proud.

Mancini's comment about his decision:
"Este no era el momento de citar a Coria, ya que afrontaría una serie de Copa Davis con demasiadas presiones. Es difícil jugar en casa y dada su actualidad, no era la ocasión para integrar el equipo."
"Quiero aclarar que Coria no se autoexcluyó, tuvimos una charla de igual a igual que resultó muy buena y entre los dos tomamos la decisión. Me incliné por el buen momento que atraviesa Chela, pero a lo largo del año uno como capitán agregará y sacará jugadores, el equipo cambia."

Here is what I roughly understand (?): it's not the right time for Coria to be part of the team, it's a lot of pressure to play in Davis Cup and in a home tie. He talked with him and they both agreed about it. He chose Chela who is playing well right now, but that doesn't mean Mancini will play with the same team during the whole year.

haha

I think, besides the problem with his serve, mancini should have considered guille to play at least one match, anyone knows that guille would have won any match on clay.
and it also would have helped him to get his confidence back.
i think mancini did wrong.

Did Guille decide about the coach yet? I would be hesitant going into a serious match as Davis Cup when so many things are hanging in the air.
Sweden team shouldn't be too difficult to overcome if David plays for Argentina so why not to pick Chela for singles? He played well at AO - lost to Kiefer in 4th round.

Guille needs a break to sort things out.

Precisely not, otherwise he would be in the team. Maybe he'll find back to his old strength on clay, but nobody knows right now and I agree that the DC isn't the right setting to find out if he does, let's see how he plays in BA and Acapulco. A defeat on clay in DC in front of the Argentinian crowd would be a big blow for Guille (much more than for Chela).
I know there were some very negative articles about Guille in the Argentine press in the past few days and the situation must be hurtful for him, I really feel sorry for him, but I think it's "the lesser of two evils".
He's aware of the problems, Mancini said they both agreed on this. Mancini knows Guille very well and seems to be "well-intentioned" towards Guille, I trust him.

good afternoon, Coria fans!
I heared in the radio an interview to Josep Perlas, who said some interesting things. let's see...
a) he quited 'cos he thought that, at this point of Guille's career, he can't be useful, or, perhaps, he can't do what Guille needs...
b) about the serve, it's all a mental matter...
c) Guille needs to get rid of the ghosts of Roland Garros 2004. Theay appear in key moments, like the match against Ginepri...
d) about Davis Cup, he said that, when a country has too many players in high level, when one of them is not at the hundred percent, you must call another one (he was Captain of the Spanish team)
e) he said something about Baghdatis but, who cares
regards, ps.

Thanks for the interview information in English You don't know how nice that is for someone like me who is too stupid to learn another language--I do well to handle English I did notice that Guille has moved up in the Indesit ATP rankings so that is good Hewitt has fallen out of the Top Ten.

Thanks, psicho! Did you (or anybody else) also see the ESPN Special about Guille that was broadcasted a few weeks ago (around his birthday), btw? I've read reports of the "Specials" about the other players (David, etc.), it seemed to be interesting.

(I've read for example that Gonzo talked about the story in Madrid in his "Special", he said that he meant what he said about Guille in Madrid, but it wasn't the right way to say it – I'm glad he admits that, I don't care about what he thinks of Guille, it's the way he spoke to the press out of the blue which was so annoying).

Why is the Argentine press writing very negative articles about Guille? I guess maybe it is like here in the U.S. if a U.S. player doesn't win every match they play the press starts in on them! Like a player can always win every match they play even Federer doesn't do that! I will admit that Federer comes close to doing that, but even he will loose sometimes.
