How cute. Never heard that one before. No one said from the Americas - North and South combined - but from America, a specific country. I've never heard of a man in Ecuador or Peru refer to himself as an American.

In all Latin America we call ourselves "americans" and "Northamerica" is México+USA+Canadá, Centre America is Panamá + Costa Rica + Guatemala + Honduras + El Salvador + Belice and South America, all lands which are south from Panamá.

America is the entire continent, my friend.

But is well known in english that "America" means USA in the common language,so people are only trolling the current state of affairs of the US Tennis

America is not a country.

United States OF America is, yeah.

If Ecuador and Peru aren't classed as American, why are athletes from those countries invited to compete in the Pan-American Games?

Its a good thing imo. All the us seems capable of producing are servebots who are killing tennis with their one dimensional brain dead games. Hopefully things will change and they will teach the newer generations how to play actual tennis and not just serve as hard as they can.

I've never seen/heard someone from North-Central America or South America refer to themselves as American. I've only seen people nitpick over that when they're being wiseasses, or trolling as you said. Probably could have ignored it, everyone else did.

At the end of the quote, you're telling me that Canada, U.S., and Mexico are part of North America. Really? I did not know that.

Canada, U.S and Mexico are 'part' of North America? Well what the hell is the other part of it?

I don't think "United States citizen" rolls off the tongue like "American". We used to be "Yankees", but now that is used to be derogatory towards Northerners.

Well New York isn't exactly south, doesn't stop their baseball team calling themselves that?

At the end of the quote, you're telling me that Canada, U.S., and Mexico are part of North America. Really? I did not know that.
I can only speak for my country (Argentina). Here is very common to think about ourselves as "americans" (part of the american continent) and in the spanish speaking countries at least in South America we call the US americans "estadounidenses" which means something like "(people) from the US" because americans means only "born in the american continent".

By the way, it is very well known that you, the US people call yourselves americans, so in english we call you just like that. In fact, as far a is know, there is no proper gentilic (like eg. argentinian, german, canadian, mexican) for the US people in english apart from american.

This is a very interesting thing. The frenchies invented the word "Latin America" to divide the continent in two parts, the anglo-saxon part, and the spanish-portuguese ("Latin") part. But this is a thing from the nineteen century. Before that, the entire continent was known as America. If you look at the national characters from all of the american countries, just like Washington, Jefferson, Bolívar, San Martín, Artigas, etc., you will see that all of them were thinking of an entire united republic for all the american continent, from the north to the extreme south.

Yes, our continent is geographically divided in 3 parts, North-America, Centre-America and South-America and in the North there are only 3 countries, México, the Us and Canada (plus Alaska, part of the US).

PS: Sorry for my english, It´s very bad when I have to write more than two or three sentences.

Kudla is a good american player and he is not a servebot. Fish is not a servebot. And what about a grinder like Iron MIke, an agressive ballbasher like Blake, a S&V player like Rampras, a claycourter like Odesnik, well rounded players like Young, Bobby Reynolds and Brian Baker, and a sort of agressive/pusher player like Harrison?

We need american tennis back, they have a lot of great venues and a lot of money and sponsor. And tennis needs that. If not what we are going to get is more things like the horrible Shanghai TMS.

And by the way, servebots are tennis as well, so what`s your point exactly?

I suppose people in the U.S. will refer to their state of residence to distinguish themselves in a conversation.

Your English is excellent. Even if it was barely legible, there would be no need to apologize.

Don't worry people of America, Del Potro is still a contender and Raonic remains firmly inside the top 20
