I admit being a Chris Guccione fan. It needed some time but I finally got there. Normally red heads are hideous but Chris is not bad looking...

Nice body!

Chris has been practicing at Sutton this week: his schedule was quite amusing--

arrived with 2 rackets, nothing else, pumped weights straight away, went to greasy cafe for lunch, then chatted inside for about 30 mins w coaches etc, then went straight into boosting the serves, then left

you're kidding me right.

The results that chris that he has been having are just plain poor, really besides the davis cup, he's played crap.

Mark had much more of a chance of doing anything this weekend than Chris did.

Chris has won his second challenger tournament in a row, winning columbia. Now a much harder $75k for him this week, would be great if he can contiune this streak.

Yeh but more importantly chris is still young, he had trouble is his first match against Warwinka in Switzerland from the pressure, it woulda been like sending a lamb to the slaughter with that horrible argentinian crowd (especially against Nalbandian!!!!!!!!)

Guccione Unlocks key to consistancy

4 January, AAP - Laconic lefty Chris Guccione believes his 7-6 (7-4) 7-6 (7-5) upset of Arnaud Clement in the Adelaide International may have unlocked the elusive consistency he requires to become a force on the world stage.

Always potentially destructive due to his booming serve and wrong-footing variety, Guccione has never before managed to string together top level performances as he has done at a boiling hot Memorial Drive this week.

That he has reached a first ATP quarter-final the day after Mark Philippoussis' umpteenth breakdown also suggests he might just be the man to aid Lleyton Hewitt in the fight for a sport that has been flagging for some time down under.

Ranked 153 in the world, Guccione has previously excelled for Australia in the Davis Cup and has also registered a pair of wins over Juan Carlos Ferrero, but this was the first time he had defeated three top 100 players in succession - Amer Delic, Benjamin Becker and now French veteran Clement.

Understanding the need to develop during a year spent mainly on the challenger circuit, Guccione spent much of 2006 at the AIS, doing just about anything but hitting a tennis ball.

"I made some improvements, I had a pretty tough season physically, I didn't hit a lot of balls, I was doing physical training and working on my leg strength," he said.

"So that helps me get down to my volleys and also movement on the baseline."

Reaching Adelaide in excellent shape, it was now simply a matter of getting the results, something he has done without dropping a set - raising hopes that Guccione can be an influential figure at the Australian Open, where he has just been given a wildcard.

"I wasn't sure I had it (the wildcard), I haven't been told, now that I know I can completely focus on here and then Sydney next week," he said.

"Hopefully I can carry this form into Sydney and the Aussie Open - I think I can do some damage if I play this well."

Clement would wearily agree after falling foul of Guccione's precision serving, 11 aces and 40 of 50 first serve points won in a match that neared two hours in length.
Well done Chris making Quarters of Adelaide thats a personal best. Hopefully he can get over the line against Gasquet and good luck in the doubles too with Wayne.

Guccione into Adelaide semis

January 05, 2007 CHRIS Guccione served up 22 aces as he defeated No.2 seed Richard Gasquet 1-6 6-3 7-6 (7-4) this afternoon to claim a place in the semi-finals of the Adelaide International at Memorial Drive.

Having given up a 5-0 lead inside the first 12 minutes of the match, Guccione found his feet and blasted serve after serve down the middle to frustrate his Frenchman opponent.

The Australian delivered three aces in the third set tiebreaker alone, the last of which gave him arguably the most significant win of his career to date over Gasquet, a player often touted as the next superstar of the game.

Guccione had previously demonstrated his complete calm during the key moments of a match in a pair of crucial Davis Cup victories and in his trio of wins this week.

"I don't think I've got flustered ever," Guccione said.

"That's not what I do, so inside I was a bit annoyed and wanted to change something, but he was just hitting winners from everywhere.

"It was a good sign to serve that well on the big points.

"Most of the break points he had, I either hit an ace or came up with a good shot, and in the tiebreak he barely got a look-in on my serve."

The semi-final berth should put Guccione into the top 120 in the world, while a tournament victory would have him on the verge of breaking into the top 100 for the first time.

Such a ranking would allow him into the main draw of most ATP events and all the grand slams, creating numerous opportunities to grow into exactly the sort of player Australia so desperately needs.

Davis Cup captain John Fitzgerald said Guccione's win today confirmed his belief that the player belonged in the very best company.

"Terrific result for him," Fitzgerald said.

"It looks to me like he believes he should be on the court with them, which is a real mental stepping stone.

"Chris has improved gradually.

"He hasn't been the type of guy who's made giant steps, but I believe, and so does he, I think, that this is where he belongs and this is his time."

Guccione's win provided much needed good cheer for Australia the day after Lleyton Hewitt subsided to a surprising three set-loss to Russian baseliner Igor Kunitsyn.

The first man through to the semis was No.1 seed Novak Djokovic, who recovered a service break in each set to register a slogging 6-4 7-5 win over Paul Goldstein from the US.
Well done Gooch breaking into top 100 would be a big acheivement so would winning Adelaide.
